Hi all,
So i started a new build on the weekend and having a couple of issues.
There seem to be a couple of issues that im having, but i think they may be linked in some way.
So essentially i first noticed the problem when trying to install windows 8.1 preview, it kept restarting and failing the install. i thought the usb ports or usb stick were the problem but then tried on main rig. the install went fine so i then just moved the ssd back over and tried booting. it did the first windwos boot fine, activated the drivers and whatnot that it always does on first boot. after a couple of minutes i got a BSOD memory management error and it turns off and restarts. I then tried both sticks of ram, one at a time and still got the same BSOD. then i tried RAM from my main rig (which i know is fine) and got the same error, i even ran memtest from usb to test the patriot ram. At this point some of the reboots didnt say memory management, instead it just turned straight off to black screen and restarted.
i thought maybe it means SSD/HDD for memory so i tested those in my main rig, formatting, moving files and installing w8, all easy and fine.
I then thought maybe the psu was not supplying power wuite right. I took the XFX 450W out of my server and got the same reboot problems. sometimes memory management, sometimes straight off, sometimes other things.
i thought maybe the 8.1 preivew was a bit unstable so i then installed ubuntu and it installed ok, but once onto desktop, it literally runs for 3 minutes and restarts, no warnings, no error labels, just straght to black screen and then reboots.
so having now tested the psu, software, RAM, SSD/HDD it could only be the cpu or motherboard right?
I thought maybe i was getting a HSF or temp problem. bios temps show idle at 32/33C so i was happy with that. i thought maybe overtightened (even though i onlu used my fingers to thighten) so i have loosened the HSF. sure enough, still getting the same problem. (Just running ubuntu at this point.)
Now it must be the CPU(APU) or motherboard???
i have no cleaning fluid so wanted to avoid having to reseat the HSF. What do you think my next steps should be? i've spent all weekend on this
Im at work at the moment so cant do anything immediately but what do you think?
Specs are:
AMD A10 6800k
