I am glad you got it working. Seems a strange that it just worked when you recieved it back.
I did have a similar problem with a 280X so I booted the system without the GFX card (use on board gfx) and go into the BIOS first and set "Other PCI Device ROM Priority" to "Legacy Only."
That did it for me.
I know I am closing the gate after the horse has bolted but I know that this has come up a few times now. Updating the BIOS has also worked for a few.
Anyway, you did the right thing by coming in here to ask for help. 9 times out of 10 we are arguing over Nvidia or AMD but on the odd occaision there are loads who will help a fellow forumite out of a spot of bother. It's also good to get some support from someone and in here there is a lot of experience going back years and years.
