Hi

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Just finished physically putting together the hardware.

e2180cpu
4 gig ocz ram
256meg x1950pro
Abit ip35-e
320gig sata hd
OS waiting to go on Vista premium 64 bit.

Connected it all up. Big 24 pin power connector in, 8 pin power connector in. Aux 4 pin PCI-E in. Sata cable in, connected to mobo. same with floppy abd ide dvd drive.

Turned power on, red neon constantly on on mobo. Speakers power up, monitor power comes on. When i press power button nothing happens, can't get anything to start. I'm concerned about the small LED connectors, some of them don't have the + or - indicators on them, if these are on wrong would it not boot or is there something more serious afoot.

Many thanks
Gary

Try swopping the power switch to the motherboard around, if that does not work you may need to manualy short the pins on the board, do this with a screw driver or paper clip, this will ensure the button is working.

I have the same problem with LED'S built my spare PC the other week and the harddisc LED did not work, swoped the the connector around it worked :)

Good idea didn't think of that.:)

I use bluetac, cant see it behind case door and there is only a tiny amount covering it. Actually I have bluetac on all leds in my room.

Seems as though the old "power on, no boot" is the most common problem with new builds. Few basic things to check:

- Power switch jumper on motherboard
- Bios jumper on motherboard (switch to off, then on)
- Bios battery (reset in slot by taking out and putting back in again)
- Memory, graphics card (reset in slot by taking out and putting back in again)
- Power cables (make sure CPU fan power cable is in right connector on motherboard)

If I tried all those and it didn't work, then I would start to think there is a component hardware problem. The most suspect are usually:

- PSU
- Memory
- Graphics Card
- CPU

Start with PSU. Try swapping it out with an old one. If you can't, then swap any of the other components above with old ones. You are basically trying to find out which one is to blame

Oh and take out anything that isn't required. For example unplug the floppy drive, DVD drive, sound card (if you have one) etc etc.

I don't have a power connector on the small harness, unless you're eferring to the power led (excuse my noobiness)

The ram is the 4 gig ,2x2 OCZ on offer and the power supply is Asaka 400w. I do have a 4 pin connector loose (2x2 square shape) but i thought that was ok as i have the 8 pin one instead on

There was no socket spare for that connector. It said i could use either an 8 or the 4 plug, preferably 8, so i did, it was just spare and worried me, all along it was the led cable back to front. Doh in my defence there were no + or - signs!

Well heres a new one to me, going through vista process, says i need a driver for my hd??? I've never had this before when installing a new OS. I got no drivers with my HD where to go from here, i told it to browse the vista disc but it coulldnt find a generic one.

Edit -it's asking for the above because it doesnt detect a drive, surely it wouldn't have let me enter *** reg key if it didn't? My HD did whir

Edit - sorted

You know the first time it wasn't detected and i edited it - You're right, i hand't powered it. Now got the sata cable connectors one to hd, one to mobo and also got the psu connector on it. Am i being really dumb, quite possibly am, tonight i've been stressed with the non boot problem and my common sense and patience has run out. I just want it TO LIVE!! LIVE DAMN PC!!!

I also apologise for the poor grammar throughout thi thread, using a friends laptop while trying to get mine working!

Never used one before, the keys are weird!
