Hi i have just put together a new build HTPC. However the case PSU only has a 20 pin power connector however the mobo has a 24 pin socket. I have plugged the power into the board and it does power up, however it switches off after about 10 seconds with no beeps or anything. It wont even post. Could the power connector be the problem?

Thanks for all the replies so far guys. The PSU only has the 20 pin connector. It is an enlight 350w PSU that came with the case. I have the 4 pin connector that goes near the cpu plugged in, but if I remove it and power up everything starts spinning and the power dosen't go off like it does when it's plugged in. (any ideas about that?)

I have also tried the mobo with my OCZ 520W modular with a 24 pin ATX power plugged in but still got the same. I've tried with a variety of different DDR2 modules of varying capacity, I've tried with the onboard graphics and with a 8600GT plugged in. I do hear the hard drive spin up but it just won't post and switches off after about 10 seconds, unless like I said above I remove the the 4 pin cpu plug in which case it dosen't switch off but still won't post.

I don't get any BIOS beeps or anything. So any other ideas or theories would be most welcome!

O.k...Turn the system on with no ram installed...if you don't get any beeps then, your cpu either needs reseating...or your motherboard or cpu is faulty I would say.

Try this with your 520w though, long as it's in proper working order obviously :) As it should be better than the 350w.

If you do get beeps, that's a good thing, cause it means the motherboard is detecting the cpu...which in turn is detecting that there is no ram installed...Then go on adding one stick at a time in every slot if you can.

Thanks for that, will give it a go and post back.
