Hi,

following on from my build spec request build spec request I have purchased and carefully assembled the new kit.

Abit IP35-E
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
GeForce 8800GT
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4

Upon turning it on there are signs of life but not a lot happens. The mobo LED is on so I know it's getting power, the case fans spin but nothing else happens. I do notice also that the CPU fan (stock) isn't spinning even though it is plugged in. I removed all unnecessary boards and swapped the ram around and taken 1 stick out but still nothing.

As the cpu fan is not spinning it's got me a bit worried and think I shouldn't be turning it on.

any ideas?

checked the cmos switch (pro version only i think), jumper and battery are positioned and seated correctly?

what psu are you using? all power leads connected (atx, cpu 4pin, gfx 6 pin)

Thanks for the quick reply.

I' beginning to think that maybe I shouldn't be allowed near a computer.

I'd neglected to connect 2 of the power leads. I'd only done the 24pin connector.

All fixed then? nice one, bet you won't make the same mistake again.

I always find the GFX connector is missed by peeps

You learn by your mistakes.

Always quickly read through the motherboard manual no matter how times you have built a PC. This may save you a lot of time and heart ache in the long run.

Not this time, that was when I added the X1950 to my old machine.

I've now got the long chore of installing xp + updates + software (antivirus, firewall etc etc) and setting the environment up to my liking.
