new build won't boot

I've just built a new pc for my dad and when poweing it up I don't get any display.
All the fans kick in and there is power to the optical drives and everything but there is no beep and the monitor just stays on standby.

The CPU is a G840 but is is only a H61 chipset board so I am using a PCI-E gpu to get a display so could that change anything?

That was the first thing I tried, the only thing I haven't reconnected is the cpu

Motherboard needs the CPU as well as other parts to get output on the monitor.

Could also try building it outside the case to avoid any shorts from the case itself

Have you tried connecting the mointor to the onboard graphics

I got it working now, it turns out that one of the sticks of ram is DOA, i will RMA it tomorrow, cheers guys
