Hi guys,

Helping a friend set up his new pc. Everything is connected but on start up the motherboard beeps and all the fans are coming on but then it shuts down and goes into a reboot loop. Nothing is appearing on the monitor so I wonder if the issue is caused by the gpu. Though it's fans have been spinning up as well. The motherboard is a gigabite ga z97p d3, gpu is r9 270 and a Haswell i5.

Any suggestions?

what memory? installed it in the second/fourth slot from cpu socket?

only way to know if its gpu is to uninstall it and plug display cable into the back of motherboard and use onchip graphics

what make/model psu?

could be bent cpu socket pins also,if you do check take care not to damage any when looking, take and post pics if you can

could also try a long cmos clear by removing the motherboard battery for 10 minutes, then put back in and try

it should be ok,next id check cpu socket pins,if it look sok maybe try building outside the case on wooden or cardboard surface just to rule out any short circuits

What would I be looking for with the pins. Every time I've done it in the past I've not had issues with the cpu. If I check that I'll need to reapply thermal paste?

you can reapply if you want but should be ok

I cant think whatelse it could be,bent pins would cause a loop like that,as would a compatibility issue somewhere,memory/psu ect

to rule those out youd need other ram/power supply to try

don't play or mess with it too much, use magnifying glass and a fine sewing needle and just pull it into shape and leave it

they can snap off without warning, then you need a new board
