Hi guys,

So thought it was time to upgrade my old system so last week ordered a 3600x, MSi Tomahawk Max B450 and a RTX 2060. This is the 3rd build I've done so I'm not an expert, but certainly not new to this.

Did everything as normal, everything fit perfectly. Went to turn it on for the first time and disappointment. The fans spun for a fraction of a second and then the system went silent. Tried again and nothing, didn't even spin the fans this time. I thought, ok let's get this out of the case and back on the motherboard box and troubleshoot my way out of this. Unfortunately this is where I've hit a road block. Tested PSU with paperclip test, yup fine. Tested PSU on my old board, yes fine. Reseated ram and tried 1 stick. Same result as before. Reseated CPU and cooler, same result. Tried jumping the power incase the button on my case was dodgy, nope same result.

Come to the conclusion that the only thing that could be wrong is a doa motherboard. Anyone else got anything I haven't tried? It says it's ready for 3rd gen Ryzen so that shouldn't be an issue should it?

Try swapping the memory around so you use the other DIMM, but yes, I'd say your conclusion of dead motherboard is about right.

BUDFORCE is right, Sdaly more common than you would believe
More common since manufacturers stopped sealing the boxes, bags /cough

Max boards support 3rd gen without a BIOS update and even if it didn't, I'm pretty sure they still boot up.

You are sure the power connectors were the right way around, right? Not sure you can even plug them in the wrong way, just askin'
