Over the last few day my parts for my new build have arrived:
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel i5 - 2500k
Power is supplied by my existing OCZ eXtreme 600w PSU.
Today I put them all together and the thing won't power on. The fans all start VERY slowly and I can hear a very slight noise from inside somewhere, like a hum I suppose, also the phase LED bank, on the board, has the red light at the top of it on, although not at a constant brightness, almost flickering. However when I power it off with the PSU switch on rear, all fans spin up briefly and the phase LED's on the board all quickly flash.
So I removed the main power supply from the new board and plugged it back into my old board, whcih was still setup with the old E6750 in place, along with the power switch connections from the front panel, my original board and CPU were just sitting on the floor alongside my case with no memory or graphic card in place. So I powered this up and the board light illuminated instantly and the fan I connected kicked in too, along with the CPU fan. The HDD began to spin up too, so at this I powered it off again and reconnected the power cables etc to the new board again......still the same, won't kick in.
Does this sound like the new board maybe faulty or is there someone who could offer some other possibe fault before I go down that route. I don't know if to keep tinkering with things or admit defeat.
Any ideas ??
