New build won't turn on...

Hi guys.

Started my first ever build tonight and I followed the Newegg youtube guide.
I built it first outside of the case and it powered on fine. Now I've put it all in the case and it now won't turn on. Nothing. I must admit that I got confused with the connecting up of the fan wires!? And I had trouble getting the power cables into the optical drive and the HDD, they are so tight I fear I might break something. -I googled this and it seems this is a common problem with the Cooler Master pro modular 500w.
Would this cause it not to power on, if they were not fully inserted?
I have connected the front panel connectors for power.
I've also tried disconnecting the front panel and shorting the two pins as I did in the external build. Nothing

Spec:
3570k
Z77-D3H
HD 7850
Corsair 8GB
Cooler Master Silent Pro 500w modular
Zalman Z9

I've given up for tonight, but will get back to it tomorrow or Monday.
Any help would be appreciated.

The Z9 case comes with the power button disconnected, take off the front panel and you will see the green cables that need connecting.

24 pin and the extra 4 pin power connected? (there is an extension supplied to hide the P4/8 cable behind the mobo).

PSU is powered on at the back? Did you put the standoffs in the case before you mounted the mobo?

Yup connected them both, but I'm not sure on the extension you've mentioned Honosuseri?
The standoffs are on and the PSU is powered.

There is a black and yellow cable supplied, about a foot long. You connect it to the PSU to extend the length of the aux power cable. You can then route it behind the mobo tray to help improve airflow

Ok thanks, I must have just pushed that aside somehow.
Anything else I could have done wrong which would cause it to not turn on?

flicked the switch on the back of the PSU?

I made that mistake once because it was my first PSU with a switch... haha

If not, good luck :) i'm sure you will find the cause soon. It is always very annoying when a new build does nothing when you press the power button, but the solution is usually a simple one.

During my first build I didn't put the 24 pin motherboard in properly, It took me half an hour before I realised it was that.
