Built up this new rig having just returned from a 10 day holiday, the final touch was the 4790k.

It worked great all day then while i was downloading Elder scrolls online it just switched off.

The PC is currently stripped, down to the mobo/h80i/processor/psu.

I switched the ram out and switched it around etc

The monitor is not reacting to turning the pc on at all, the USB keyboard/mouse do not light up.

It doesnt beep when switched on, through an onboard speaker or through the audio input with a speaker attached.

The fans/hdd ETC run like normal, the onbard digital thermometer reads 00

It wasnt even overclocked yet!

4790k processor
MSI gaming 5 z97
R9 290x MSI GPU
corsair 16(2x8) 2400mhz ddr3
cx750m PSU
300r case
intel ssd+western digital HDD

The bewlidering thing is that it worked sweet for the day, running programs etc.

Any advice is heavily welcomed, pretty annoyed.
Most of the stuff purchased from OCUK thankfully!

Done the CMOS via jumper and the battery removal. Also remounted the h80i changed this from stock corsair paste to gelid paste. Im currently on an i5 2500k, z68 MSI mobo. Would it be worth while changing the PSU over? I have an RM 650 corsair in this...nothing makes me think its the PSU though the FANs, 290x, HDD all spun when they were connected

It might be worth testing the ram & GPU in your Z68 system and swop the PSU over.

This then leaves the cpu and motherboard that needs to be tested which you may need to RMA together.

Probably won't work, but well worth a try. Unplug your USB devices and try booting.

I had a strange issue when I built a previous system, wouldn't boot with my USB keyboard plugged in. Took hours of stress, but it worked when I unplugged to boot and then was able to update my bios.

Cheers! What's the normal procedure with RMA?
I'll swap the ram over shortly, nothing changed when the ram was completely out of the system though. I've got my monitor into the on board dvi port atm but the odd thing is the USB ports not working at all

No joy with disconnecting all USB, also tried different working ram in the new build which didn't work. Then tried the new ram in my old build which worked. Looking like the CPU/mobo then?

i don't think that mobo has a digital thermometer readout, what you're seeing is the debug led readout, i checked the manual doesn't say what 00 is, is your h80i connected to a usb header?, I remember my h100i causing a few problems when connected to onboard usb headers, disconnect it and see what it happens

I honestly think it's a temperature read out, I was watchin it when it was working :/ yea it's a USB header, I unplugged it there just to try and boot but it still won't put power to the monitor/keyboard/mouse. -_-

Here is what I do when I get stumped. Unplug it all I mean everything (except cpu /cooler/power switch) plug in 24 pin and 8 pin use 1 ram stick put it in slot 1 try and boot. Then keep moving the ram along until you have tested all slots. If no joy change the ram stick and repeat. Maybe take the mobo out try booting on top of the the mobo box to rule out any shorts.

I'll take the mobo fully out later and try to boot from cardboard, I've stripped it down to the bare essentials already within the case. Not looking good considering it was working well for the most of the day

Try re-seating the cpu, making sure that it properly clicks into place and that the socket lever is down holding it in place.

This solved the same issue for me a few days ago.
