Hi all,
With XMAS coming up I've been asked to get together a new gaming pc for a friends son. Budget is £1200 and I've been "told" to spend roughly £1000 on the computer and the rest on remaining peripherals.

We need;
Computer
Monitor (~24" and FULL HD)
Keyboard & Mouse
Speakers

Only requirements so far on the computer is it needs to runs newish games.. He'll be playing WOW, Shadow of Mordor, Total War etc.

Some options I've come up with:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Pro Gamer MTi - Intel Haswell Midi Tower Pro Gaming PC Configrator £1293.22

OR
YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK Gamer Micro Xi - Intel Haswell Micro ATX Gaming PC Configurator £1140.13

Whats your opinions guys? Thanks :)

Can you build a PC yourself?

Or do you want something that is ready to run out of the box like the ones above?

These parts are on offer,

YOUR BASKET
1 x AOC G2460PQU 24" Widescreen 144Hz 1ms Gaming LED Monitor - Gunmetal £181.99
1 x Microlab M113 2.1 24W Speakers £24.95
1 x CM Storm Devastator Gaming Bundle - USB Keyboard & Mouse £24.70
Total : £245.74 (includes shipping : £11.75).

So if you can build yourself and I assume an OS is also going to be needed then the remaining £1K will easily make a great gaming PC.

I'd go for something like this;

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-SLI - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£14 Saving** £258.58
1 x Inno3D GeForce GTX 970 OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99

1 x Alpenföhn Brocken ECO CPU Cooler - 120 mm £24.95
Total : £1,185.25 (includes shipping : ).

Has nice peripherals (kb+mouse), though they are subjective :)
If you can't build, you could learn (it's quite easy) or post a basket into the customer services forum and they will quote you on how much they will build the PC for you should you go for it - can't imagine it'd be more than £60?

Obviously this spec would have to be cut down a bit to fit the build price in if you didn't build yourself

I wouldn't as the cooler doesn't fit the case..again!

Ok, really need to check this stuff out more thorougly lol
Will edit post to reflect
Thanks for the info

Is there really any point spending £50 on a keyboard which isn't mechanical? I think I'd much rather just get the bundle stulid suggested to save some money/spend the remaining money on something else, and then later along the line buy a mechanical one. In the end, you'll end up wasting less money when the time comes to upgrade to mechanical, and also have a potential slight upgrade somewhere else in the system. Like you said though, it's all subjective and down to the opinion of the buyer.

Thanks guys.

Yes I can build my own... I was just starting out with those prebuilts as a base line really...

That AOC monitor doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing... the one I linked (in the 2nd system?) has a super thin bezel for £30 less. The Asus VN247H. Hows that compare?

The AOC is fully adjustable stand.

144Hz + 1ms response which is great for gaming.

There is height adjustment by 130mm.

Can pivot into portrait mode.

It will also tilt by -5°, +20°

The stand is solid , the monitor is very sturdy and not much wobbling if you nudge the desk its on.

went in for the low end of the budget

my 2p:

again, if this is for your friend's son, i don't think dealing with the headaches of overclocking and when overclocks go wrong would be a good idea
an i5 + gtx 780 would handle practically everything @ 1080p high/ultra
micro atx build + case with window
and again, don't know how computer savvy your friend/friend's son is, so opted for a large 512gb ssd rather than a ssd/hdd combo. that way they won't have to think: omg which drive do i put it in
nice 40w speakers
decent gaming kb/mouse combo
i previously had the e2473 screen, can recommend 5/5* (therefore specced)
enough money left over to ask ocuk to assemble it for you (£60 iirc)

Thanks for the help so far guys.

I've come up with the following so far
i7 ATX build;
Or using the i5 Z97MX Gaming CPU/Mobo bundle with a BitFenix Prodigy/Phenom case;

Plus some RAM on the last bundle as I'm not sure what.. :rolleyes:
I think the i7 build MAY be a little wasted as there won't be any "extreme" gaming happening on the PC.

A Micro-Atx i7 build would be ideal but that's not doable I don't think on this budget.

What is the main use of the pc?

If just for gaming then the 4690k will be fine and I would tend to look at smaller SSD and go for a mechanical drive for storage.

Main use is gaming :)
Any reason for the smaller SSD? I went for a bigger SSD so I could avoid the potential headache of the persons, who the pc will be for, asking and worrying about what drive to put what on.
No keyboard/mouse and speakers in that build but that's not too much of a owrry.

I wonder if this R9 290 deal is still rocking - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631947
It's not :(
