can anyone recommend me a SFF build? (case cpu mobo etc)

i was thinking q6600, 8800gt, i have an ATX 520 psu (ocz), and i have 2gb geil pc6400, would all this be alright in a SFF case or would it overheat and melt :D ?

*points at sig*

As long as you fill every fan bay with a good fan, use a good cooler, and don't go pushing 2V through your quad, you should be fine! :)

I'd recommend the Ballistix over the GeIL though.

Motherboard choice is either the Gigabyte G33M-DS2R (if you're going to overclock) or any board if you're not.

Case choice is between the Lian-Li V300/V350, Silverstone Sugo SG01e/SG03, or Aspire X-Qpack. Personally I think the Sugo wins by a mile.

will the sugo SG01e fit my ATX psu alright?, i also have a 150gb raptor x to fit in, and could you recommend a decent cooler that will fit (im going to want to overclock a LOT).

ATX psu will fit fine, is it a modular though ?

"im going to want to overclock a LOT"
Is'nt gonna happen with current quads in a matx unless you go water.

Yeah, unless you do what Jokester did and get a 120.2 in there, you're looking at 3.0-3.2GHz on the quad before it starts getting very toasty.

The modstream is modular isnt it? That should be fine if you want to save some cash, but the corsair is more stable, better built and quieter.

You could look at the Silverstone TJ08 case.

Best mATX cooling. You can even get things like Ninjas in there.

Eh, like what? Being smaller than ATX? It does that just fine.
It's in the same league as SG03 dimensions-wise.

Maybe it is the more conventional tower shape you are trying to get away from?

Size vs heat and OC is a trade-off, where that line is drawn is up to the user. Some people want their uber overclocked gaming rig to be more portable. Some people just want a bling looking case to sit on the desk, no take up too much space and not to look too much like a pc but sacrifice a bit of cooling and OC ability in the process.

All i mean is that, now with the availability of small atx cases such as the v600 etc, that it seems a bit pointless buying a tj08 as its a simialr size and loses you the flexibility of a full atx system.

..but doesn't the v600 have the PSU over the cpu socket?

This is the niche that TJ08 fills very well - ability to have big cooler in small case.

Well a better example would be the A05, that is around the same hight, can take full atx motherboards and house larger coolers.

basically, i want a small a case as possible (i travel with my pc a lot), but with the Q6600 @ 3ghz i doubt my tuniq tower would fit in, basically atm, my specs are antec sonata 2 case (which is awful for transporting), 7800gt, 520w modstream, gigabyte DS3, 2gb geil low latency pc6400, raptor x 150gb, e6300.

My e6300 is at 3.2ghz atm, obviously as the Q6600 is quad core i wouldn't need it at 3.2ghz, so 2.8-3.0ghz would be fine, and im sure ive seen specs in a SFF case with quads @ 3.0 - 3.5ghz

Sugo 1 is ideal ( is often thrown in sports bag and taken to m8's house) and 2.8-3ghz is no prob. I run my quad at 2.88 24/7 in the sugo 1.
Tjo8 , while great because you can fit the larger coolers in and get a better o/c , its big and like said above kinda defeats the whole sff factor due to it being a mini tower and huge :D

Horses for Courses.

OP said he wanted to overclock a lot - i was simply providing another option to meet his criteria.

Everyone has their own preferences and what is more important to them. Hairboi just needs to decide what he needs from - size - looks - cooling - quiet -

With increasingly limited space there has to be compromises. It is up to the individual to evaluate the inherrent trade off for their own requirement.

All the cases mantioned so far are good ones - in their own special ways.

i have decided to get the sugo 1, and keep my e6300/7800gt for now, so could people recommend a mATX motherboard + cpu cooler that will fit in the sugo 1 :D

Hairboi have u considered the sugo SG02B Its same internals as a SG01e but has a different front face and is £20 cheaper.

I just got a SG02B for a media centre re-build and im very impressed. Ill post temps with my e6300 and Zalman CNPS8000 Ultra Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler. Temps maybe a little high as the coolers fan is set to low. I cba to open the case to set the fan on full whack sorry. At least it will give you some idea of what you can expect.
