Hi guys,

Just thought I would post the new build PC i'm working on right now and see if you guys had any feedback or suggestions for improvement.

Only thing i've not picked out yet are the GFX, got 2 ATI 3870's in Xfire on my old rig that i'll use till I decide what new cards i'll get.

Case: Coolermaster RC-1100 Cosmos S
PSU: 1250W CoolerMaster Real Power Pro
Mobo: Intel DX48BT2
CPU: Intel QX9770
Memory: 4GB (2x2GB) CorsairTwinX XMS3, DDR3 PC3-12800 CAS 7-7-7-20, XMP
HDD: 2 x 300 GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (Raid 0)
OS: Vista Ultimate SP1
Network: KillerNIC M1 Network Card

Thats the basics, it'll be on air no OC until I get a new GFX setup, once that is implimented i'll be moving to a Koolance Water cooling config.

1 last thing I also have a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer and installing it in Vista is a pain half of the time so i'm not currently using it, I like the card but is it worth installing or sticking to the onboard Intel 7.1 Dolby with the mobo or a different card all together?

Thanx all.:D

Edit: Added Network card lol

I've heard some good things about the Asus Xonar for the soundcard so you might want to look at that in place of the X-Fi.

Other than that it looks like a good PC if somewhat overkill for almost anything unless you are seriously overclocking and/or gaming at a high level, the NIC for instance probably makes a negligible difference to overall performance but if you have the cash.... :)

Well I will be looking to OC it once its fully complete and I do love to play games, its going to last me for some time, its the last build before Intel's new platform is released which I wont jump straight into as I want to see how stable that will be and how much it will take off.

I'll have a look at the Xonar thanx for the recomendation, does it have better support then what Creative call support for there cards?

If you get a soundcard go asus, creative labs are poor.

Better still get an AV reviver if you can afford it. Should be able to pick one up and 5.1 speakers for £300. Then you can just use optical out from the mobo.

Yeah I got sick of the soundcard crapping out last time I installed it and its been sat in the box since.

Whats an AV reviver if ya dont mind me asking?

It what you use for a home cinema set up. Then you would need to get 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. Much more versatile. As you can connect all your consoles, dvd players etc into it. But it does cost slightly more.

Slight typo there I think, it should be an AV receiver i.e. an amplifier, pre-amp/processor and AM/FM receiver in one box. Will be higher quality than most PC speakers and more adaptable. How much you spend depends on your budget as you could begin at say £150 and carry on well into the thousands of pounds sort of level.

Seems like overkill on most things if I'm honest.

Personally I'd take a Lian Li case over the Cosmos, eg a Lian Li A71.

That PSU is insane, you could spend much less and settle for something like an Enermax 720W.

Quad Core Extreme Editions are pointless, you'd be able hit greater speeds by overclocking a Q9450.

DDR3 is overpriced at the moment. Settle with 4Gb (or even 8Gb) of nice DDR2 RAM.

The network card will probably make little to no difference to your pings...:)

edit: Raptors are a bit silly too, you could get most of the performance at a fraction of the cost from a pair of Samsung F1s. And also have loads more space.

Yep I agree with P4radox. Yep I mean AV receiver. I keep saying amp but I mean receiver.

Ah right as in my current home dvd set up via 5.1, just use the optical connection. Cool thats a good idea :D

Toying with a few ideas at present an got a bit of money to burn so i'm not set on all the parts, gotta wait till the new gfx cards come out an then it might change my config all together.

how much you got and what do you do? will it be gaming and media?

I set aside about £2000 maybe £3000 out of what I got to build a nice rig that will last me a while an I can have fun with, gonna be mostly gaming but will do some video editing and stuff when I have time or i'm not working 70 hours a week lol.

Mostly I wanted to pick up the main parts an build it when I have some time off in a few weeks, once thats done I can add the GFX cards at a later date an set up the water cooling in the near future.
