Hi, new build, q6600 go, Abit motherboard, but being new to Intel overclocking have a ?, the cpu i would like to run at 3.0g, to do this is it the fsb on the cpu (1066) or the multi thats changed and when it is changed i would like the memory to run at the same fsb if pos so what memory would i get?

Bye,

Ian...

Just got the same setup myself.
It's the FSB you will need to change to overclock the CPU. The max multiplier is 9 so you could go for 333x9 or 375x8 to get your 3Ghz.

As for the memory I went for PC6400. Should be plenty for a Q6600. Have a look at this thread.

You'll probably get away with running 400x8 with minimal CPU voltage adjustment.

Hi, thanks for the replys, so if i go with 375x8 that is spot on 3gigs is the fsb on the cpu still at 1066? if so what ddr2 memory would run at 1066 fsb so as to match the cpu fsb?. Also whats the best Abit motherboard for this combo?.

Thanks,

Ian...

Abit IP35 Pro, tho the standard IP35 will be more than enough.

The fsb will rise as you increase the clock speed. 375x8 will have the FSB running at 1500mhz, but you're memory will be running at 750mhz. So any PC2-6400 will do the trick.

Thanks very much Cob, the memory running at 750mhz is it cos its ddr2 that you get 1500mhz? ie X2. Would there be any benifit in using pc2 8500 ram or would that be a waste? sorry for all the ? but i have only ever overclocked Amd cpu`s and that was a while ago and just want to insure i build the best i can at the present time.

Bye,

Ian...

Nah the memory will be running at 375 x 2 as it's DDR2.

Ignore Intel's FSB rating. Their claimed 1066mhz is really only 266mhz.
