Hey guys, I have just joined here and have been out of the loop for some time since my last PC was a AMD 64, Im now in the market to build a new one with a current budget of about £800

I have done some research before hand but would like some advice before I part cash.

Thanks

I still have my mouse and keyboard and have got hold of a Lian Li PC-V1000 to put all these nice sexy bits in.

So looking at those specs what do you think.

Many thanks for all input

Looks like a solid build although I don't know much about the CPU cooler everyone seems to recommend either the Tuniq or the Ultra 120 on here. Also OEM CPUs only have 1 year warranty and not 3 like retail versions.

I dont mind much about the warranty for the CPU...

With regards to the HSF I had read that the board can give some clearance issues with large HSF's like the Tuniq and True but I would be happy to change the HSF to another if people use and know they fit with out any mods.

I have searched and the HSF seems like a good option but as above if the others fit and would give better cooling then I would change.

Thanks

I can 100% recommend Tuniq Tower if your case is big enough for that monster ;-).

Also you could save some cash on mobo definitely, don't think you need that expensie stuff. Could just as well go with the cheaper ~80 quid version since you probably wont use it anyways.

Moreover, go for either 20" or 24" monitor imo ... not worth getting 22. No diff from 20, and the next resolution jump is at 24".

Ok I have done some changing here and there based on what you guys have said and what I have been reading.

I have left out the HSF as I cant get it from OCUK but I think I will be getting A Xigmatek HDT-S1283 instead of a Tuniq... Its getting great reviews price is lower and I would like to try something different.

Yep that looks 100% fine.

The only thing left you could consider now is getting a tube of MX-2 if you don't have it and cooler for that 4870 if you want to OC it.

I expect I would keep GPU stock for time being and when the time comes get a 3rd party HS for it.

I have some AS-5 but it may be too old to use now so I will buy some new stuff.

The MX-2 is it silicon based as using the bare heatpipe HS you cant use slicon based TIM as it damages the copper.

Thanks

If it was going to damage anything, it won't be there for heatsinks which mostly are from copper :S. Tuniq has copper base as well. It's fine.

Although if you can have AS5 left it's fine (If it's been in shadow and closed it can be there even 5yrs ;) )

Still MX-2 is better temp wise so I would get it if you can. I've notice good 5-7c drop from AS5.

Thanks... I have decided I will get the Deluxe board a 4850 and a 20" LG monitor and that comes in at just over 700Quid which is pretty good.

So I will be ordering this on Friday... Cant wait to get it all and get it built.

I would recommend this spec instead (even though you say that you have already decided on parts):
OcUK17892182.jpg

£100 more, but with the 24 inch monitor (which is very good, it is said to be using panels that are found in the more expensive models on the market).

Your spec looks ok...

But I was going to use Vista 64 so 4GB suits me better... Plus the cheaper the better but still using top qulaity hardware, so I think with my new revision I cant go wrong really and it saves me quite a bit of cash which I can put toward a new game.
