hi i have my i7 components arriving tomorrow and im going to have a go at building the machine myself:eek:

is it best to install cpu and heatsink on mobo and then put it in the antec 1200 case or to put mobo in machine first then cpu etc?

Yes, fit cpu, heatsink and memory first - then install into case.

If you get stuck - just post away...

Edit: But it's advisable to test that it runs outside of the case first - as it saves taking it out again if you run into problems. As it eliminates shorting, straight away, as a possible cause. (sit the mobo on a piece of cardboard if you do this - it may sound scary but it really isn't.)

Edit x2: What is your total spec?

F1 Raid (hopefully will work with new mobo)

Looks like a good setup.

However, concerning the RAID - you should back up everything important before putting it in your new build. There is a high chance the RAID will not work with a new controller, and if it did It won't be bootable because of the new motherboard.
