Hi

Would this be a good upgrade over my current system? And will it be good enough for gaming with high quality graphics for the next year or so? If not feel free to offer changes, my budget is around £250 or so.

My current spec:

Pentium Dual-Core E2180 @ 3GHz
Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H GeForce 7100 Micro-ATX motherboard
2GB DDR2 Corsair 6400C5 TwinX Dual Channel memory
Radeon HD3850 256MB

Thanks for your help.

what sort of games do you play and at what res ?

personally, long as the mobo could take it, i'd go for an E8500 processor and the 4870 graphics card.

To be honest I don't play any specific games, just anything and everything that comes out for the PC that looks good. The resolution I use for gaming is 1680 x 1050, on a 19" LG LCD, which I won't be upgrading any time soon.

i'd go with the e8500 and the 4870 you listed.

checked and your mobo will accept the e8500 but gigabyte list the required bios as f7.

alternatively you could go for the q6700 if you don't feel confident upgrading the bios as thats listed for bios f2, same as your current processor.
