I've decided to go for a new build, I just have a few questions first.

Does the AMD Athlon II X2 250 AM3 3Ghz only support DDR3 PC3-8500 (1060Mhz)?

Also, will the corsair 620W PSU be enough for this processor with the Radeon HD 4870 750Mhz 1GB, 2xHD's, CD etc?

Thanks
Mike

Yeh it looks like 1066MHz is the maximum supported frequncy for that cpu. Also that psu will be fine, corsair are a good make and 620w is more than enough for those components.

Is that a good graphics card, or is there an alternative which gives the same performance for cheaper or better performance for the price (its about 125 pounds I think)

Thanks!

I would be looking at the GTX260's or a 4890 if u can find one even cheaper than normal.
620W Corsair will cover that nicely.

The 4890 looks good and not too expensive. Puts my total to about 400 pounds. WOuld prefer cheaper, but then I won't get as good a PC :)

I use it for Web/Graphic design (doesn't really need to be this high powered for that :P) and for HD films, and games like Flight Simulator, Men of War etc, so need a fairly high spec :) Just want value for money :)

Got my parts today, put it together an so far it works (not put in the HD yet, but it powers up) Still waiting for the Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4890 to come in stock as its the cheapest 4890 available. Hope its available soon, but no ETA yet. Using an old X800 for now. Yikes!

Thanks OCUK for a great service :)

I'll try and put some pictures up tonight :)

I've had one problem though, when trying to boot it says something along the lines of:
Insert media on drive to boot.

I tried putting in the install disc, and changing boot priority to the CD drive, but the message still came up.

Will have to have a proper fiddle tonight though, just a bit odd. Maybe my CD drive is bust, but it recognised it and it opened to let me put the CD in. Didn't seem to spin up though.

Hey all,

I have a bit of a problem now.

I have set the boot priority to DVD, HD and then removable device.

I get the message
'Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or InsertBootMedia in select Book device and press a key'

I have tried puting the windows disc in and out, refitting the dvd drive connections, but nothing. Maybe the dvd drive does not work? The light flashes on the front, but it doesn't spin up yet.

Any Ideas?
Thanks

I've tried some other dvd's and dvd's and nothing.

Can I install windows another way? through an external hard drive or something? I don't have a spare cd drive to try :(

I meant a spare drive sry, id still try cleaning the disc, even if new ! You must have a mate or relative who can whip his out for you ;)

Unfortunately no one that close by at the moment, I can grab a new drive for 11 quid from a shop near by, or wait till Monday and grab one from work.

Will keep trying :)
