A respectful hello, am going to build my grandson a new computer for the holiday period. Giving myself plenty of time, I am thinking of utilising the the new AMD 965 with rampage 111 formula mobo but would like to put 6gb of ram. Can someone suggest a cooler which will allow me to do this, thanking you kind people in advance.

If he isnt getting it until Christmas (right?) then you would be better of waiting as you will either get the same system but for cheaper or a better system. The new i5's are coming out soon which should drive AMD's prices down and ATi are lined up to release there 58##'s soon.

Also, the 965 isnt great value for money when compared to the 955. A 200MHz increase doesnt warrant the £35 difference. That difference could go towards an aftermarket cooler and overclocking the CPU to 3.6ish (not sure how they clock myself).

The best idea is to post a budget for us, including wether or not he needs a screen/keyboard/mouse and then let us come back to you with soem options.

This, and the wise option for a AMD system with DDR 3 memory as it wont be triple channel would either be 4gb or 8gb in duel channel set up.

Wait until nearer christmas and you will save quite a few £'s, also the i5 cpu's will be out then so more options to go for.

I would also ask what hes using the pc for if its pure gaming a 955/965 wont be much better then x3 and you can buy them for £85 now so xmas will be even cheaper. Ofc these x3 o/c very easily to 3.5Ghz+ maybe a corsair H50 on X3 will be a nice combo

Thank you thus far, will do as suggested, but what concerns me the most being a Noctua cooler with both fans might be able to fill all slots, thank you again.

Games are just beginning to utilise all cores on a quad - and with the planned 6core CPUs I can only see haveing 4 being a good thing. Might aswell go for it with the initial outlay of capital imo.
Tis discussion is probably irrelevant anyway as things will change soon enough.

Not really sure what your concern is. Do you mean the size of one of these ?
