Hi guys

I'm looking at building my first pc using some of the componants from my dell xps 720.
Its a bit limited due the locked bios so cant overclock anything on the system.
It currently has a q6600 at stock.
4 gigs ocz gold memory.
8800 gtx.
2 300gig hard drives in raid 0.
X-fi sound card.
Dvd drive
Dell 750w psu.

This is what i was gonna buy .
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR Intel P45 (Socket 775) Motherboard
Antec 300 gaming case as the dell isnt atx so cant use that.
Corsair TX 650w PSU cos dell one again dont fit in atx case.
Akasa AK-976 cooler.
Arctic thermal compund.
Comes to £250 with delivery

Then use the hardrives, overclock the cpu to as high as will go, sound card and keep the graphics card or might be able to get a ATI 5770 and get another one at a later date and use it crossfire.

Do u think i would gain anything from doing it or just leave it has it is and buy a new sytem or could you guys spec me one thats quite cheap and gonna improve over what i got.

Its a bit long winded lol but any help would be great.

That sounds like a good plan, you should be able to get the q6600 up to 3.4 which would make a nice boost in terms of performance. Do fresh installs on the HDDs and it'lll be like a new machine. Then as Im sure youve thought of down the line you can re-use this psu/case in next build
Just check the HDDs are 7200rpm, Dell may of gone cheap and put in 5400rpm, if they have Id replace these tbh, your 8800 should be fine for now

Thx for reply mate.

Will give it a try and hopefully will get a lot of improvment over what i got aleady. do you think i should go for an higher psu just incase for upgrades later.

I've never built a pc before. so any tips would be a great help.

you could go for a 750 yeah, that should be plenty
It all goes together quite easy, its like lego really, just remember if it doesnt fit dont force it, youre prob trying to put it in wrong slot, lol
Just make sure you use the mobo stand offs on the case, prob most common mistake for first time builders
