Hi all

Im hopefully ordering in the next week all the components for my new build. How does this look so far.The total budget is £700 MAX .Cheaper if possible.I wont be upgrading often.Got to spend my money on my house so have to use this money wisely.
I was thinking of going the AMD route as in the future i may get a Thuban a couple of years down the line for a little juice boost.

Any opinions and help is greatly appreciated :)

I was looking at an I5 spec but the socket future doesnt seem that clear. From what i can gather the mainstream chip is out and that further releases will be low/mid end chips.
I know there isnt a lot between the I5 and 965 for gaming but a lot of people seem to say the AMD feels smoother.
The rig would be for gaming and a bit of office work.

Would a 500w PSU be fine for that system but with room for another 5770 maybe in the future if more performance needed or would i be better selling the 5770 when i need to and get a more powerful single card?

Thanks

Martyn

Would say that there is some upgrade as more I7 cpus are going to be released next year for the I5 socket. As for the performance I cant tell you from my own experience, but a online friend of mine who uses the I5 says it performs the best out of any rig he has ever had. I have seen the 965 black edition and to be honest my friends q6600 performs roughly the same.

Also, there isnt much point going for a 965 when it's just an overclocked 955. but if you can stretch the budget a little bit, then get an i5 rig it honestly is better

Well i was looking at the C3 revision of the 965 which by all accounts is quite an improvement over the current 965.

Ive got a week or so to decide so i will look into an I7 rig

Thanks

The i5 is a better gaming chip. I don't know if its possible to do, but turning off the Hyperthreading on an i7 would essentially give you an i5. This will boost your gaming performance quite nicely.

There's not much cooling capacity in that case. you're limited to 1x120mm fan at the front, and one at the side and rear. This isn't much at all... the Intel chips are all very toasty, so you'd probably benefit from getting a case with better airflow. I personally love the Coolermaster Storm Scout case, I bought one a while ago, and I'm glad I did. Enough space in there for a TRUE (just)

I think this would be the best performance for your money :

Sorry i did mean to say I5 not I7 .
I was just going for a cheap case that i like the look of.Wasnt to sure about the cooling.
Do I5 chips run hotter than the new 965????

I actually dont mind the look of this case either tbh
