I'm building a new rig for my dad. He has HDs, Soundcard, GFX and PSU, monitor etc so i'm just looking at CPUs, mobos, RAM and a new case.

I have priced up a socket 775 (p45) rig for £340 made up of:

E8400
4gb Kingston Hyper X 1066mhz
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR
Antec 300 case

Then there is an i5 rig at £382:

i5 750
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3
4gb G.skill 1600mhz
Antec 300

The first setup is virtually identical to mine so i'm thinking about paying the difference and giving him my mobo/psu/ram and using the i5 setup in my rig.

Any advice on whether the upgrade would be worthwhile or should I just wait and go straight to i7 and X58 socket?

Also, can anyone spec a better i5 rig for around £400?

Cheers

He will be using it for media/blu-ray and the web so nothing demanding, just wants something quicker than my old P4 and DDR1 rig.

I use mine mostly for gaming. Tbh my current setup is fine just that for £40 it might be worth the upgrade

Then this will be excellent for that kind of job.You won't even need the GFX as the mobo has an HD4200 thats more than capable of giving Blu-Ray streaming.
