Helloo
I am a self confessed noob wihen it comes to building a PC. I probably will end up asking OC to build this one for me too..
Last one i bought was 6 years ago, and that was a poor pre-build through work.

I want a PC that plays all the latest FPS and is somewhat futureproof (a couple of years before upgrades)
I also watch movies, edit photos, use pc as main household sound system etc.

My budget for absolutely everything (inc keyboard, mouse, monitor etc is approx £2k, I would go a bit higher if i/you think something is worth it.
Although i am prepared to spend £2k+ im obviously happier to spend less. I don't want to spend it for the sake of it, so if something in my build is excessive, please say.
In particular i'm stuck on the GC issue. The build below has 2, but today im thinking i only need 1....i'm also feeling a 5970 would be throwing money away, so a 5850 as a sole card would be better?
Im set on ATI as im concerned about the noise on Nvidia. My PC is in the living room.

I have been trying to decide on this PC for a while now, but i do want to order once and for all by the end of the month.

(BTW, im pretty set on the case, its ideal for toddler-proofing)

Thankyou in advance

You could probaly lose the sound card, onboard audio is very good, plus you have listed 2.1 speaker system and the sound card is 7.1

Spec looks good, only thing I probably change the IDE dvd drive to SATA version.

You can also drop the psu down a notch :)

Thanks for the responses so far.

I have made the following changes...

Dropped the Sound card. It's something i have been unsure on tbh, but the 7.1 is a good spot.
Changed the DVD Drive to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-040-OT
Changed PSU to http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-018-CS

Im not keen on spending another £50-£100 on a better GC. I'm not sold on the cost vs gain of 2 5850's either tbh. Thinking one for now, and save the £££ for the 6 series

Ideally I'd say get a 5870 if you're looking to play the latest fps games especially since you're not convinced of the 5970.

I was thinking go for the 5970 initially. In the end of the day, buy the best, and you won't be disappointed. But is it good value for money? Is the cost vs gain (compared to 5850) worth it?
I considered a 5870, but i thought i'd read that 2 5850's were better than a 5870 and not far off the 5970? so a good compromise?

Well if you Overclock the 5850 its reachs the speed of a stock 5870 and its only 5% less performace so I think its the best for your money. But i dont think that 5850 will ever come back in stock so try this one.

Why stick the Gigabyte UDR3 over the P6X58D-E?
According to review, the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R not only has USB3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s, but is faster and cheaper than almost all other X58 boards (Asus boards included). If 5850 is the bang-for-buck graphic card, then the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R is the bang-for-buck board for the X58 platform.
