Welcome to the forums

If you have somebody to put the build together for you... what do they suggest?

would be interesting :)

have you considered a pre built from OCUK?

this i5 760 would be a good solid system + with the addition of a 60Gb SSD, HD 6870 and Win7 Home Premium 64 bit you'll still have change for under a grand!!

if your Son does not like the case, speak to the sales staff and change negoiate/take a suggestion for a change out.

Just a suggestion of another route :)

the lad whos building the pc is a friend, and has built is own over the last 5-6 years or so. he did recomend some parts but cant remember of the top of my head will get the list later of him.he's the one that told me to post on here for some more good advice.. i also got told it's cheaper to buy your own parts and build it ,rather then buy one already made.like i say i dont have much of a clue when it comes to pc's .thanks

For a gaming system a i5 is a better choice as the turbo boost is faster making it faster than a i7 930/950

And the above spec can do SLI/Crossfire if you add a second graphics card.

There is no need to spend 1.3K on a base unit.

I'm with Stulid on this one, no need to go for Core i7's etc for gaming, the Core i5 is really good when it comes to gaming. Powerful gfx card in there and an ssd for the os. He has nailed it :)

will this set up enable him to play the latest games on a 1080p tv? sorry for asking such needy questions but want it to be right for him thanks..

ok guys thanks for the advice much appreciated.think with the money left over i might put a second graphics card in there, should be ok then for a few years. what you think stulid?

keep the money in the bank, then buy a second hand GTX470 in 1-2years time if you think it starting to struggle with games.

just one more thing no doubt i will be buying the components from ocuk what sort of price do they charge for building them?.i know i said a friend would do it but just wanted to know what they charge thanks

Why don't you just buy a pre built system?

Also, using a PC with just a TV isn't much fun. I'd spend 7-800 on a base unit and a couple of hundred on a decent monitor.
