Budget 1000 - 1200 Euro (1,032.42 GBP)

I need a new pc excluding monitor mouse keyboard and case

What do you recommend?

Cpu - I was going for sandybridge but is it worth considering the ram limitations?

Graphics card - most important since I will use it for gaming

Thanks :)

1,200.00 EUR = 1,032.42 GBP
Euro United Kingdom Pounds
1 EUR = 0.860354 GBP 1 GBP = 1.16231 EUR

make life easier for you specers ;)

What case do you currently have? This may impact on the mobo and GPU suggestions.

re: Cpu - I was going for sandybridge but is it worth considering the ram limitations

The only ram limitation is that they use double channel configuration (vs. triple in the top-end i7 systems). You'll not notice that difference. Oh, and get ram that runs at 1.5v..

I'd definitely go for Sandybridge given its performance benefits over 1156.

So 1155 socket with maybe 2gx4 ram? and sandybridge ofc

Do you rechon I could do that with 12000E budget? Still need graphics card psu and HD :D

I heard that sandybridge is a beast for overclocking

Do you need an Operating System?

This does depend slightly on the case you've got as the ATI 6950 is quite long and does have issues in some cases...

If you don't need an OS and can fit the graphics card in I'd probably go for:

Product Name Qty Price Line Total
XFX ATI Radeon 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £229.99

and unlock the graphics card to a 6970.

At current conversion rates that's 1151 Euro's....

That's a fairly large PSU, but it'll mean if you wanted to Crossfire the ATI's in the future, when maybe the graphics card isn't giving as high frame rate as you want it would be no issue what so ever... Could even Crossfire in a couple of months if you wanted to when the budget allows. Also Modular which is always nice for cable management :)

Also stuck a SSD in there as it's almost stupid spending that much now a days without one.

It depends why you want it really, for gaming the difference between i5 and i7 is negligible

See Benchmarks below:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=288

It's only really once you start to render that you see a real difference.

I guess the other issue with SSD's that I forgot to mention is that there are newer ones coming out Feb/March time, which may well be faster and cheaper...

The only setback of the 60GB SSD right now is that it has low capacity, 120gb is very expensive

I want it for gaming, watching movies/music mostly.I don't do any rendering on my pc.Well rarely but I can spare waiting a few more seconds when rendering :P

As for ssd's I will try searching around for info but if you could put in a link it would be helpful :)

Better wait a while until Intel releases new revision of chipset, because old one is buggy regarding to SATA, including controller damage (I've read some SSD breakdowns, too). So motherboard vendors have to include this swap as well, summing it up it takes a while.
