New build

Hey guys, I recently dropped a few threads around, about the AMD 1090T, AMD 6950/6970 etc...

now I've got a much bigger budget to play around with, so I threw together a new build.

What I currently have right now is a monitor that's roughly the same size as the one I picked, but it isn't HD, but I do want to run this PC on two screens now an again when I'm jumping into Photoshop an such.

So far I've opted for the following:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz
CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D14 (I'm wanting to OC the 2500K)
GPU: MSI HD 6950 Afterburner 2GB
Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD65 (I do want to go crossfire eventually)
Memory: Corsair XMS3 Classic DDR3 PC3-12800 4X2GB, 8GB total (1600) - changed to this instead, as I can pick this up for £65
HD: 500GB WD
SSD's: OCZ 60GB Vertex 2E (two, running in RAID 0)
Case: NZXT Phantom
PSU: 850W Silverstone Strider+ Modular
Monitor: Iiyama ProLite E2407HDS 24

Fans: The NZXT Phantom already comes with the following:
FRONT, 1 X 140mm
REAR, 1 X 120mm (included)
SIDE, 2 x 120mm, 1 x 200/230 (2 x 120mm included)
TOP, 2 X 200mm (1 x LED 200mm included)

I'll also be getting 2 more 200mm fans for the top and bottom, if I can fit the side one alternatively with the Noctua NH-D14 in as well.
I'll also be adding an additional 140mm fan to the front.

Lighting: 1 blue 12" sharkoon cathode kit, 1 white 12" sharkoon cathode kit (blue at the bottom, white at the top)

Anyone got any better suggestions or recommendations that would be cheaper but better, or cheaper with equal performance?

Thanks :D

Looks like a brilliant setup. You could save a little bit of money of the RAM RJC posted up earlier, but there seems to be nothing wrong.

The non hd monitor would be quite useful for if you want to have a website open or something else while you are doing Photoshop work, something that doesn't need a hd monitor like Photoshop does.

Will 500gb be enough for you? What will you be using this for other than photoshop? If i were you i would opt for a 1tb. But its a bit insignificant on the overall build. On the whole its great

Well in my current PC I have two 500GB HD's, so I'll be carrying one over onto the new build for storage :P

An as for the BenQ monitor, that does seem pretty much tempting, however the other monitor has HDMI as well as DVI, meaning I can hook up my 360 as well as my PC at the same time, I should have mentioned that a few input methods, mainly HDMI and DVI are necessitys.
Unless I'm reading it wrong an the BenQ does infact come with HDMI as well.

Thanks stulid :) now changed the monitor to the one you suggested.

Reading around an doing a bit more research, I've run into a little bit of a problem as far as the following goes...

the Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler and the 200mm fan on the side panel of the case.

I'm sure there's other threads about not being able to fit the fan, however I was thinking..

would it be at all possible to fit the 200mm on the outside of the case instead?
This may sound like a silly or ugly idea, but I was hoping I'd be able to do that with the fan, but also keep the dust filter in front of it as well.

Would this be possible or would it be more hassle than it's worth?

So it would be:
fan (200mm) | side panel | CPU cooler

instead of:
side panel | fan (200mm) | CPU cooler

I wouldn't be able to use the second configuration without getting an alternative CPU cooler... which I don't really want to do as I've got my heart set on the NH-D14

I've added different RAM and a different PSU to the build list as well.

Also a question as to how much I have, would a more powerful PSU be advisable, or would the one I have chosen be sufficient?
*edit: added a couple of fans and lighting to the list.

edit2: DFP123, I'll be using this for gaming mainly, but photoshop and video editing will end up being done on this PC as well, also I'll be taking up a course soon for rendering, graphic design, modelling an so on.
