Need advise on a new build not for myself.
My sisters had just a Gateway Windows Vista, 1Gb RAM pile of **** laptop for the past 4-5 years or whatever and it's just decided to pack up so she wants a desktop instead. It will only be used for web browsing, social networking and maybe a bit of Photoshop/photography stuff. Nothing too taxing.
Any advise on a build.
Need EVERYTHING but a OS.
Thanks in advance.

The CPU will be overkill for most of her uses, but nice if she can afford it to make things a bit quicker for the photoshop stuff, switch it for the Athlon X2 chip if you want to save some cash. :)

Hi there,

Do you have a budget in mind? Also, what specific OS version do you plan on using with it?

Without a budget in mind - this would be a nice system for the usage stated:

Admittedly the monitor and CPU+mobo options above are not the cheapest - but they are very good quality. The monitor in particular (IPS panel) is a nice step up from the TN panel monitors you can get for a bit less money. The CPU is a quad core and is really very quick - excellent for things like photoshop and will allow the system to "keep up" for several years before the CPU needs to be replaced.

I like the way I assume a fairly low budget coming from laptop using for 'maybe a bit of photoshop' and Andi assumes £700 budget. :D

Yea, when someone says "photoshop" I usually assume they would make good use of an IPS monitor and an SB and go from there :)

If not and the OP comes back and says "£400" then your spec is great, though I think you will need to add mouse+KB+speakers.
