I've always, always owned a laptop(s), but now is time for me to get a desktop, but i do want build it myself, but i have no idea what fits with what etc, like pins etc, im a total noob to it, the constuction part i could do easily, but choosing parts ugh, like what power PSU to have what type of cooling etc.
So I put it to you sexy people here, to help.

Budget £1000
Uses: mainly gaming with some multimedia (for uni i start in september :D)
Preferences: Blue ray, and a graphics card to be able to play most if not all on the highest settings. To have a nice sized HDD iswell :).
Keyboard and mice not needed, got Razar gear.
Monitor will be needed to be bought so monitor in the £1000 please.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

P.S. To be a pain could you explain why you chose the PSU and Cooling and other important parts iswell, so i can learn for the future, not needed but i would apreciate it :) :):):)

Someone more experienced will hopefully help with the spec but just a few questions.

OS needed? Would need to be 64bit if someone specs 8GB RAM
Any preference on size of monitor? 120Hz for Nvidia 3D or not needed?
Would you be comfortable overclocking?
Would you want SLI/Crossfire (2x Graphics cards) as a future upgrade route?

EDIT* Also are you looking for an SSD in the build?

wont find any of them over here. only nerdy kids or 40 yr old virgins living with their parents :p

if you need one, dont get the OS from OcUK. you might be able to get windows 7 professional for free from your university (i did), or if not you can get home premium for about £40 with a student discount

This

Would you want a Z68 Board ready for the new AMD release (when it comes)

I'd say i5 2500k, Ballistix Sport (or however your spell it xD)

Would just a Blu Ray reader do or would you want to write them?

Very nice spec, has a really good air cooling case, solid psu and nice gfx card.

Monitor is very good for gaming too due to very low input lag plus 120hz.

OS is not needed , i have Windows 7. but pref around 24" give or take is fine :), and just to read blueray :).

The SLI/crossfire, What are your opinions on this, is it worthy to prepare for such a thing? Im not sure on the pros and cons of this.

Never overclocked in my life, but would be interesting to learn my self.

That build looks looveeellyyy @Sycho.

Is the 600w PSU and the cooling enough :)?

The psu is more than fine for the system and the cooling from that case is amongst the best plus the cpu cooler is probably one of the best at that price range. You could go for a Lancool Dragonlord plus a Thermalright Silverarrow instead but i personally would go the Raven RV03 with the Gelid Tranquillo.

SLI is very good for 120hz/3D due to it being more easier to hit the 120fps mark yet stay consistantly near it too and it would make playing in 3D a lot more smoother. If you want SLI you could go for the Lancool Dragonlord case plus 850w OCZ Z series psu gold rated with a GTX560/570 so you can add a 2nd later.

Actually put this psu http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-031-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1098 in my spec instead since modular is really worth having these days plus it's a reliable psu too.

Nor do I, I think I need some sleep, do you want a board ready for when AMD decide to get there new CPU on the market

AMD BullDozer processor is due out shortly and if you choose an AM3+ motherboard it would be compatible, but the current best gaming cpu is intel 2500k which is Socket 1155 so not really an option with this, more suited to budget Phenom builds.

Could want IvyBridge (Intel's next chip) support (so Z68) and PCI-E Gen3 support for the next generation of graphics card due out start of next year but this might be outside your budget as this Asrock mobo is £160
