Hey guys, it's been a while since I upgraded my PC so I've started coming up with some upgrades that I desperately need! :p

over all it come's out like this

Processor - AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 850 "95W Edition" 3.30GHz £85.99
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2P (AM3) Motherboard £35.99
RAM - OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz £29.99
Hard Drive - I already have plenty of stuff to put in here lol
Gfx Card - OcUk GeForce GTX 550Ti OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £99.98 (plus an Nvidia Gefore 7900GT I've already got, is it possible to use both?)
PSU - I've got a 650w psu ready (Aywun Megapower 650)
Case - Xigmatek Asgard III Windowed Gaming Case £35.99
Optical Drives - already got loads lol
Cooling - already got loads too :)

Does all this seem like it would work?

Any help would be awesome :D

Sorry I've added in prices :) my budget is around £300 (I don't have a lot to spare) and I'll be using it for moderate gaming, if it plays BF3 then I'll be very very happy :p

It will work.

What are you uses? and what is your budget?

You may be able to get a better PC out of your budget.

Can you put prices or links next to your selections please, just to help us help you.

The SLi has to be done with identical core architecture. So say, you can have two 550Ti, but from different sources, but as long as the hardware matches - you're good to go. You're best to go with identical cards though. So buy the same card, from the same manufacturer to the same spec.

I'm no nVidia chip expert but I think the 7900 and GTX 550 use different chip architectures ;)

You may aswell discard/sell/hold on and build another 'baby' rig with the 7900GT. I had one of those a few moons ago too!

The 550Ti will trump it, in every way, shape and form ;)

But overall, it looks like you've got a good rig on the way mate! :) You should hunt around the site a bit more for other similar hardware, see if you can get a better bang-for-buck :)

As a side note: The Sandy Bridge (Intel iX) architecture is pretty much untouchable at the moment, even against the AMD Bulldozer series. It's just incredible. See if you can get a fair price vs AMD.

The Ivy Bridge will introduce a whole new level of pwnage!

system look good for starters, but you may be able to get a better system for your cash. Also wouldnt use two different cards, as performance is usually affected in games etc, esp if one card used is slowed then the other one

Wow thanks for all the help, and so quickly! :)

So do you think I'd be better off with an Intel (Ix) processor?

Actually, on reflection, at that price range.. You should stick with the AMD. I think the Intel Intel Core i3 2100 has two cores (I'm not sure about the 1366 socket speeds). The Phenom has 4 cores. It will be substantially quicker!

You picked a good set up first time around. Just choose whatever feels right to you, and do some Googling for comparison charts ;)

Wow man, thanks for all the help! :D

I think I'll go with that setup, maybe change a few things about, do you think it'll be able to run Battlefield 3?

You should check out tomshardware's system builder marathon budget builds (not sure if I can link straight to it). they have recently compared an i3 setup to a phenom 955 set up. Theres a lot of useful info in there.

BF3 might run a bit sluggish on it - Especially if you're pushing for high fidelity graphics.

Check out the charts below, for a rough performance guide. At a 'medium' spec level, your card is almost at the top of the league! :)

You might want to try 2 cards in SLi? Or get some AMD/ATi and go for CrossFire?
