Guys been away from the pc building scene for a while now since selling my last project (project yidian )
I am now about to start building my next rig and plan to keep this one for many years, I will be building it from scratch, as the only computer thing I have is an iPad right now so I need everything except a monitor( will be using tv for now), I have a budget of £2600 I plan to build it over 3 months to help spread the cost.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the replies guys , I won't need speakers or o/s it will be mainly used for gaming and watching hd content , research starts here, did not know there is going to be a new nvidia card coming out and what are the new cpu's??? I may find it hard to buy it all together, my plan was to buy the motherboard/CPU and ram last maybe an overclocked bundle??? But I do want a top graphics card :)

Stulid , I like the look of that set up , I'm liking the case, looks better than the 800d I had before , I am not to fussed about the sound card and don't need the operating system....

I am all for your suggestions..... I want something better than I had last time ( search for project yidian ) and something where I won't have to upgrade for years

I like the second spec you done stulid, but would prefer the obsidian 800D case, I do feel it's a bit ott , for what i want it for ( gaming and films etc ) I just want a system that will handle all the latest and future games with ease with full eye candy on, I will be planning on getting the dell ultrasharp 27 Ips screen a month after I've got my new build , if it will save me money then I'm all for it , would be good to see your choices as I'm no expert....

Regards

Thanks for the quick response, not sure about the 6 series as I'm a bit of a radeon fanboy , I there much difference between the i5 and i7 , noticed only one 7970 in this spec.... Would one be enough, really liked the idea of having two in crossfire

I have had the 800d before and loved the case, had plenty of space , very tidy, and lots of cooling..
But to be honest never researched any more cases as i aas more than happy with the 800d

Just placed my order for the above (thanks stulid ) however I cannot remember if the obsidian came with extension cable for the power and gpu , and do I have to get a display port cable or is that supplied with the gpu card?

If I remember righty I had to get and extension for the power... Does the 7970 have two power connectors per card? And would the psu I got supply that?

Yeah gonna order me one 24 pin extension just in case and I'm still searching for some half decent speakers for around £50 to compliment my setup , will post pics of it all when it arrives , hopefully Monday or Tuesday :)

Just brought all the above and I thought I set it up right , but when I go to turn it on , nothing happens, no lights or noise, nothing , what do you think I have done wrong?

The 8pin is in along with the 24 pin I have plugged the cards in one has a six pin and another 8 pins one on same card , my pci e cable has a 6 pin connector and another 6 pin with two other pins hanging off which don't seem to fit flush

Don't understand the bit about shorting

No life , no fans spin , the only thing that light up is the on button on the case, may think the tiny connectors may be put in wrong , bit confused with them

I have a powersw not sure if I put that in the right place , there's no writing on the motherboard for that just +pw- and +pw led - which Is a 3pin connector
