Hi I'm looking at purchasing the components to build a new desktop. It's been a while since I built my last one. I'm wanting it for Gaming. I've seen the GTX 690 and 680 which both look pretty cool so I've been looking to base a system around one of these with a top of the range CPU. I've seen on previous posts people have compiled a list of components from this site to buy to make their system. Is it possible someone could do the same here. Im looking to spend between 1-2,000£. Another thing which has caught my eye is SLI thingy with the GFX, not entirly sure what MB/GFX/CPU i require to take advantage of this. So any help would be appreciated.

Not yet but im considering this as a after cost rather than in the price of the desktop. Going to possibly buy around a 50" 3D TV and then possibly a largish monitor to keep an eye on other things running in the background while playing the games on the TV.

If you have any ideas im open for suggestions.

cheers

Again, I would seriously consider an air cooler over the H60, better performance and much lower cost, eg Cooler Master Hyper 612S...

Like the look of that, how much better would it be with 16GB ram with a MB which supports it.

£102 for 16GB: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-002-SA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

That memory is perfect for ivybridge as it is hugely overclockable.

Air coolers are also a good choice. the DH-14 is the preverbale mac-daddy of the air cooling world.

or if you want a cheaper version the CM 212 and corsair a50 are great buys around £25

Ive also looked at buying a base system from here and just adding a GFX i want and more RAM. Is this advisable?

of course.

a lot of the base syems are configuable anyway, allowing you to add more RAM and a GPU to the price anyway, its cheaper to add it than buy it seperatly and it comes pre-installed.

If you want to make sure its value, just come back and check with us.
