Hi guys, I'm currently moving from section to section getting as much advice as I can for my new build as I've not built a rig for about 6 years and never spent this much time on one or taken it this seriously (eg, installing the drivers the came in the box etc, or is that okay?). I've currently got my GPU drivers, DX11 and my MoBo Chipset, what else do I need? I've gone for a Samsung 830 SSD, not sure if I need drivers or anything for that? Is there any particular order to install in too? Also, how do I change boot to ACHI (I believe that's right for the SSD?) and how do I deactivate sleep mode on Windows 7 as I have heard this can cause problems with SSDs.

Thanks a lot for any info guys.

Don't stress out over drivers. Grab the ones for your graphics card and let Windows do the rest. You can always go back and update drivers if you find any functionality is missing.

No drivers should be necessary for your SSD however I strongly suggest you find out if there are any firmware updates out for it.

Your motherboard is probably set to AHCI by default.

I use sleep mode all the time with SSDs without a problem.

I was going to just do my WiFi card and see if Windows picked everything else up, I think there are firmware updates for my SSD so I'll grab those. Edit: Just looked for these, it says there are some, but when I've looked for the specific model I can't find any. So I'm hoping that's an older model that requires them but not mine. If anyone fancies taking a look I've got a Samsung 830 128gb SSD, the model number is MZ-7PC128B/WW. Just to double check my googling ability :p

Cool, so when I have built up my comp, just throw the Windows 7 Disc in and it should run fine? (I won't be using any other HDD for the time if that makes any difference).

I very rarely use sleep mode, and with me hearing bad things about it I just wanted to disable it. What SSD do you use? Just to make me feel a bit more comfortable :p Cheers.

I have an old Intel 80GB X-25M on my personal box and a 256GB Crucial M4 on my work laptop. I've used the Intel drive for years now with Windows 7, and the Crucial more recently with Windows 8. I honestly can't remember the last time I had a problem with waking from sleep and I'm sure others would back me up on that.

Doing the actual build will be the most difficult part I should think. Just take your time and make sure your cables are fitted correctly. Are you using the 64 bit version of Windows?

Yeah I will be using the 64bit version. I feel a bit better now, didn't want to misclick sleep and end up killing my SSD. I'm pretty good with the build part, but once Windows is installed I normally just want to install games and get playing lol.
