New Build

Hello, I currently have a gaming rig that I was going to upgrade but my partner has decided she would like to start playing games (and I will do everything I can to encourage that, so much so I have decided to go for an entirely new build.

I am thinking something along the lines of an i5-3570k, gigabyte z77-d3h (possibly the z77x) a 120gb ssd, a 2-3TB mechanical hdd and 8gb of ram.

I will be getting a new GPU for christmas (likely to be a 670 GTX) and would like a decent mid tower case (I have been looking at the corsair carbide 500 and the coolermaster CM 690 II) with plenty of potential for over clocking in future (if its needed). Im quite new to the overclocking world so I want to take it slow.

I already have speakers/monitor/keyboard+mouse so its just the above and a decent modular PSU, I would just like some input into what you guys think would be best. Im aiming to spend about £500 on the components (other than GPU as mentioned above) I will be using my current HD 5870 until christmas.

As mentioned I will likely be running at more or less stock settings until I need to start pushing it, but would like the potential to OC without buying many more components if necessary as I would like this build to last a couple of years or more.

Thanks :)

Thanks for the heads up :) I might be able to get an old mechanical drive to use for now, if so that would save me a bit of money. The budget is flexible so that is not too much of an issue at the moment.

Would it be worth getting a larger PSU than the 550w OCZ one recommended? The reason being that I in a couple of years time it may be more cost effective to drop in another 670 in SLI.

This is why im considering getting the z77x. Also do you guys feel that a 64gb SSD would be enough?

It will mainly be used for the operating system and for larger games (probably guild wars 2 for the time being).

Thank you :)

there's 2 upgrade options, you can drop in a 2nd hand gtx 670 or sell your gtx670 and get a new card. no right or wrong answer to that though.
if you decide with the latter, you can save yourself getting a sli-capable mobo and a higher rated psu. hence saving some money now. (works out to be about the same, according to my guesstimate)
64gb is too small imo. 128 is the minimum (if your budget allows)

ok thank you, I will need to save a bit more money for now then which gives me more time to do a bit of research :)

just out of curiosity how are 670s currently in SLI? I have heard that some cards have problems with micro-stutters and other issues
