Hello everyone,

I've finally got to that point again where I'm looking to build a brand new computer! Hooray!

My problem is however, that my knowledge is somewhat heavily outdated in terms of current specifications, etc. I have no idea what's good/bad/ugly at the moment or indeed, what chipsets work with what. Shameful I know, but I'm completely out of the loop!

I'm looking to build a computer - all in - for around £800 give or take. This includes monitor and case. I still have my Lian-Li PC7 case, but I'm now considering selling it on. The budget isn't set in stone, but I'd like to keep around that benchmark.

I still also have a next to new PSU (I think it's 650w?) that's about four year's old, so that should be able to be salvaged. Aside from that, it's a fresh build.

If anyone would care to help me out here, I'd be extremely grateful and hopefully (re)educated in the process!

Thanks very much!

Hdd needs to be replaced. As for opticals I'm looking for a decent BR/DVD-RW.

I can't honestly recall what PSU I have without a lot of faffing about. For some reason I have Hyper stuck in my head though. It's over 600w, only used for a couple of months before my old PC packed in. Shouldn't need replacing.

I should also mention I need a networking solution as everything is wireless in my house.

Is the TP-Link 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band PCI Express Adapter (TL-WDN4800) [TL-WDN4800] worth it over the Asus PCE-N15 300Mbps 802.11B/G/N Wireless PCI-E Network Adapter [PCE-N15]?

How long are things usually on pre-order for?

Haha, tired eyes. Well spotted!

My hopes of getting this on finance have been thwarted so looks like it's back to the original plan of buying this in pieces. Guess I'll start with the PSU! :p

PSU and headset first I think stulid as the PSU is on deal and the headset will get immediate usage anyway.

I'm not sure where my order stands at the moment. May have got one, maybe not.

Hello again everyone, I wasn't able to buy this initially due to a few reasons but now that the expense that is December is out of the way, I will be looking to purchase the system within the next month.

Are there any obvious changes that people can recommend from the last update?

Thanks. :)

Not bought anything at all yet. Still have the case but will be selling it on. For all purposes it's a whole new build. Budget is around £1,000 - £1,100.

Hi guys, rather a silly question than a stupid mistake and all that...

I've recently bought the ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3x 3072MB

and some Corsair XMS3 16GB DDR3 RAM.

I already have the Gigagbye Z77-D3H motherboard.

Will the Ivybridge Intel i5-3570k or the i7-3770k be compatible with the above? I haven't bought the CPU yet.

Similarly, is there anything incorrect with what I already have? I'm assuming the RAM, gfx and mobo are all fine so far.

Thanks.

Thanks!

Just had a small brain-fart worrying that the Intel chip wouldn't go with the ATI gfx.

/derp
