Hi guys,

Finally getting around to buying my new system! So far I have decided upon the following:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £184.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £129.98
1 x CM Storm Stryker Full Tower Gaming Case - White £129.98
1 x Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 850W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CMPSU-850TXV2UK) £105.98
1 x Samsung 128GB SSD 830 Desktop Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC128D/EU) £89.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £69.98
1 x Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ / ST1000DM005) £67.99
1 x Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Blue (Socket LGA 2011/1155/1156/1366/775/AMD AM2/2+/AM3) £66.98
Total : £860.89 (includes shipping : £12.50).

I still need to decide on RAM, a graphics card, a monitor and smaller items such as sound and wireless cards, mouse and keyboard.

I would appreciate any advise on the best components to fit the above build. I am looking to spend around £500-600 on the graphics card and monitor and then another £150 or so on the rest!

Hi Bacon?

Is 660w enough? I was aiming to go 750-850 range to cover future expansion.

The system will be for gaming and general web-browsing. No video editing etc.

I would like to just get the one graphics card for the moment with another one being purchased down the line.

I already have a 22" Dell monitor (quite old) which I will use for the web whilst using the new monitor for gaming.

That PSU is more than enough with its 56A on the 12V rail. And with GPU's getting more efficient the need for high wattage PSU's will decrease.

Could save some penny's and get the xfx silver rated moudlar 850 watt psu

not as good as the seasonic one quality wise. but still a great psu, 20 quid cheaper and will do everything you need and more. and its modular also.

then below gfx card,m monitor and ram

could also get a gtx 680 if you want to go to full price range

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £319.99
1 x Samsung S23B550V 23" Widescreen LED MHL Monitor - Black £137.99
1 x XFX 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £94.99
1 x GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £23.99
Total : £589.56 (includes shipping : £10.50).

Also change HDD to the below

Thanks for the suggestions dunn2010.

You would go Nvidia over AMD? I am probably looking at £250-300 on the graphics card (your suggestion would be fine) and then getting something like a 24" Dell Ultrasharp or a 27" DGM. I guess the issue is that my other monitor is pretty old and I need to match the resolutions?

I was thinking about going low profile with my RAM, just to keep everything tidy inside. Someone suggested Samsung Green?

to keep everything tidy? that ram is standard size and wont clutter your case at all. expspecially the full tower your planning on buying.

if your spending 250-300 on a gfx card prob best getting a radeon 7950 or if you can stretch to £311 theres a gtx msi gtx 670 on sale atm

cards below

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC Twin Frozr Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC) £311.99
1 x Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X OC 3072MB PCI-Express Graphics Card (11196-09-40G) with FREE Sleeping Dogs PC Game £257.99
Total : £581.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).

I am happy to go with the first card you suggested as I have seen people recommending Gigabyte over MSI.

Any suggestions on the monitor?

I also need to get a wireless card, sound card, mouse and keyboard. I have some speakers so will wait to upgrade those.

I will let someone else suggest a good monitor for you that fits the bill. keyboard and mouse tend to be personal choices imo however cant go wrong with logitech stuff. go look at some mice you like, find some reviews and see if they fit your preferences.

Also wireless card, im assuming that is because its too far away from router? have you considered the home ethernet plugs?

My router is downstairs and my pc upstairs. I have some powerline adaptors but they dont seem to be working at the moment. Not sure if that is because I have moved house and internet is not working or whether the wiring is not compatible.

Edit - Does anyone else have any advice on graphics cards and monitors for this build?
