hi all
i have a few questions about my pc psu and ram.
i have pc running but cannot get the ram running at advertised 1600mhz. every time i change in bios to 800mhz and save it comes up message saying defaults loaded
and i think i might not have a big enough psu is this the cause of the problem.
i have also had a couple of bsod when booting into windows but this was after bios update

spec
Fx 6300
Western Digital Blue 1tb hdd
XFX Pro 450W Core Edition
gigabyte 7850 2gb
Gigabyte 970A-UD3
Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 C9 1600MHz

any help appreciated.

the default in the bios is 1333mhz but when i try and change it to 1600mzh it reverts back and wont load windows. do i need to change anything else aswell im sure theres something im missing

Increase timings to 10-10-10-24 and set voltage to 1.55V
It supports XMP on intel with the settings of 9-9-9-24 on 1.5V so it should do that on other platforms as well
If it fails with more voltage and bigger timings you have to test if the CPU can handle 1600Mhz on the ram
You have to OC the cpu by FSB and lower multiplier to reach 1600 from 1333
Or just underclock the cpu FSB and increase multiplier with 1600 Mhz on ram and by decreasing from 200Fsb to 180Fsb ram should run at 1440
I have no idea how flexible that cpu is in real life usage

yup changed timings manually to 9-9-9-24 and it works thanks it had in bois auto settings and spd settings in two coloums i changed it to what spd said which happened to be what you said 9-9-9-24

is the psu enougth juice to run this system or do i need to get a bigger one ?

Your PSU should be fine..

The Bulldozers don't use/do much and the 7850 is very power friendly..

Aslong as your not heavily overclocking you'll be alright. :)

That PC will need around 350W maximum so having a 450W PSU
In games the PSU will be at 70% usage it is just ok
But if you overclock do it only on the GPU
That CPU is very power hungry overclocking it to 4.7-4.8 will increase power draw by 100W

PC so much better with ram at 1600mhz i read somewhere this is the min speed for piledriver cpus. is ram easy to overclock? do i just up the speed and see what happens ?

That ram will do those settings but that is all
Overclocking ram will get more bandwidth but bigger timings (slower response time)
You have a decent balance of speed and response time
You might get for example 1866 but with higher voltage and bigger timings
