I was inspired by http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-368-OE&groupid=43&catid=2475 and really like the orange and black theme - but that is way out of my budget!

I'm looking at a complete build for around £1300. Mostly for gaming and slight photoshop use. Future proofing as much as possible as usual.

On second thoughts not sure if the case I chose is too garish.. hmm

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for your help. I've kinda pinched and borrowed from all builds and found a case I like.

Will I need some more case fans do you think? Going to invest in some orange cabling also - If anyone can suggest how many / what i need that would be great.

If anyone has the monitor in my build too, thoughts would be great. Going to try dig reviews out now. I simply went off price and design originally.

Nice one

Yer, starting to get out my price range a lot ha. Good to have the input though thanks.

I really don't like the 540 case design either. Rather have a tower shape. Love the 300r except for the damn vents on side window, spoils the design imo. Never thought i'd be struggling with the case!

I've got that exact same dilemma, 300R or Ronin xD I think it would be about £10 anyway to get that window replaced in the 300R with another sheet of perspex. The fan filters on the Ronin are pretty much non existant, not a great point so personally I'm going for the 300R

Let me know if you get the persoex replaced and how easy it is mate.

Just checked out ronin and same situation as you, hate the fact no dust filters.

Yeah haven't ordered the 300R yet, going to ponder it for a day or to.

But yeah, sorry for hijacking thread xD
Either way you'll get a good case. Heaven your second spec looks nice but maybe a higher spec PSU and you could even spend about £15 for a 2TB drive

Thanks mate and no worries - glad to hear someone in same boat as me. I just found this image online - i might just get the 300r and out that side panel to good use.

300rFANsetup_zpsd47418a4.png

Not sure if the side panel will need filters now though.

I was actually thinking intake on front and side panel.

Intake on top back (push pull h60 config) and just use the top as exhaust. Not sure if that would be optimal though. I just don't think the h60 rad as an exhaust would be ideal.

YOUR BASKET

1 x Asus VN247H 24"Widescreen Super Narrow Bezel LED Monitor - Black £185.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £167.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-OC Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £158.99
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 750W Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020061-UK) £79.99
1 x Toshiba SSD HDTS212EZSTA 9.5mm 128GB Solid State Hard Drive - Retail £79.99

1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2133HC11ADC01) £69.95
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02733) £67.99
1 x Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler £54.95
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £44.99
1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-221LBK DVD Rewriter - OEM £17.99
1 x Zalman ZM-K200M Multimedia/Gaming Keyboard £11.99
1 x Gigabyte M6800 1600DPI Gaming Mouse £7.79
Total : £1,443.98 (includes shipping : £13.75).

Final build here chaps - what you think?

Swapped the heatsink for a black themed one to match the build and also swapped out PSU for a modular one (also closest one i could find to match colour scheme - a lot have green / blue stickers on etc).

If someone could spec me some orange wires, specifically which ones i need and how many, that would be great. Fearing there is too much black now with the heatsink and GPU so looking at ways to get more orange in there.

Slightly over budget but think i'll be happy with this setup :)

Thoughts / opinions appreciated. Nice one.

Worth updating the CPU to the pro version you think? Just don't want to hide the ram tooo much as it's orrrrrrrrrrrannnge

I have the non pro 2 version and it is very quiet. I would imagine the updated version will be just as good if not better.

Thanks for that Lee. Will consider it then. Do you have any pics of your cooler and mobo so I can see where it sits in comparison? Im guessing the size difference isnt a big difference from 2 to 3.

This cooler can be oriented so it doesn't cover the RAM slots, and it matches your theme:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Xigmatek Janus LD1266 Heatpipe CPU Cooler - 120mm £29.99

Don't expect it to be as good as the Dark Rock. But usually it's only a few degrees difference. And I would love to get my hands on one some time to test it, as it is built to the same format of the Noctua NH-L12 which gets decent results.

Cables and a bit of lighting:

YOUR BASKET
1 x NZXT CB-LED10-WT 12x White LED Sleeve - 1m £9.98
1 x BitFenix Alchemy 24pin ATX extension 30cm - Orange £8.99
1 x BitFenix Alchemy 8pin PCI-E extension 45cm - Orange £6.98
1 x BitFenix Alchemy 6pin PCI-E extension 45cm - Orange £6.49
1 x BitFenix Alchemy 8pin EPS extension 45cm - Orange £5.99
1 x BitFenix Alchemy Internal Audio Extension Adaptor 30cm - Orange £4.49
4 x BitFenix Alchemy 2pin I/O extension 30cm - Orange £3.95 (£15.80)

Thanks a lot Danny for all your posts there. That cooler doesn't look as 'epic' compared to the dark rock but ill try and fine some reviews. Certainly matches the build better! Not seen many CPU fans facing that way before. Would the direction it is blowing now mess up the tradition intake at front bottom and and exhaust back top? I can imagine the intake to mess with the blades on the CPU but I could be wrong.

Finally build up for review now. Changed PSU so it is modular and colour scheme matching (What do you guys think?) added the orange wires and lights (Thanks for the help guys!) And also switched to IPS as recommended.

Any input but I hit the buy it now button? :)

Thanks for all your help guys. With all the above in mind, please review final build before I hit buy :)

Added an sp140 for another intake at front (Will work alongside 300r standard one) and 2 sp120's, one for H60 (Swap out the existing fan so I can have colour band), the other as an exhaust at the top of the case. Plan on buying some orange spray paint for the bands to add more colour.

Swapped to the H60 so I can show off more of the mobo / orange. Added R9 for orange also.

As for the PSU i'll probably just peel the blue sticker off, If I can!

Thanks guys.

Personally I'd get the Bitfenix Ronin. The 300R has vents on the side window - not to my liking. OcUK don't have the Ronin in stock, but you can find it elsewhere.

To be clear about the fans: You want an SP120 for the cooler and AF120 and/or AF140 for intake and exhaust.

Some orange spray paint for the fan rings :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x MTN 94 Spray Paint Orange - 400ml £4.99
Total : £8.90 (includes shipping : £3.26).

EDIT: An external DVD drive will keep the build looking clean.

Yep, 120 for cooler and 120 for top exhaust and 140 for front intake.

Nice one on spray paint I didn't even bother to search OCUK thinking they wouldn't stock it.

Right, but just to make sure: you only have AF fans in your basket. You want an SP for the cooler. The SP series are optimised for use on radiators.

I didnt even notice there was a difference mate, thanks. Was just going off pics.

Looks like 1 SP120 for cpu then and 1 120AF for top exhaust. Just did a quick google and due to the case having dust filters on intake and as fan is over cages, might be best to get an SP140 for intake also instead of AF.

What do you all think of this now then? Macbook air sold on that popular auction site last night which has now raised the last bit of cash to splash out on a new desktop!

Let me know your thoughts before I hit buy now :)

Edit - Not sure what second keyboard is doing there :? ignore that ha.

Yes. Given it's designed to take a PSU of max 240 depth, I thought might as well use it to show off that gorgeous chunky Leadex. Any cables that need fitting at the bottom of the motherboard can be slipped through the appropriate routing point before placing the PSU. Don't imagine there'll be any really thick cables that absolutely need to go through that point either, so there would probably be enough room to slide the cables in (at an upwards angle) from behind, even with the PSU mounted, imo.

I've seen pics of a Corsair AX1200i (also 200mm) in a 300R build.

But hey, if it might be a headache in the slightest way, go for the Seasonic.

Do you have any pictures of this PSU in the 300r handy mate? Be interesting to see it with the cable management. I much prefer the all black PSU but the size is worrying.

I stand by my objection to the windowed 300R: for me, the vents on the side window just defeat the purpose of having a side window because they obscure the view of the internals. It would annoy me, anyway. The Bitfenix Ronin would be my choice every day of the week.

Also...a 144hz monitor, perhaps? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-070-BQ&groupid=17&catid=1851

Monitor is just going to increase my budget mate which I can't streatch any further unfortunately. Going with the 300R due to the dust filters really. I agree though I hate the fan holes and will try and replaced with clear perspex at some point.

I'd get something better than the Corsair H60 as well :)

What do you recommend mate? I was looking at the H80 but it's too bulky I think. Also don't like air coolers for this same bulky reason. Picky, I know.
