Hey all, i'm looking at doing pretty much a whole new build, it started as just wanting a new motherboard and processor, but it's now turned into more lol

I just wanted to run this one by you guys and after any input into changes I could make that you think could be better, also just to be sure it'll all work nicely together (I'm certain this is all fine though)

I also have a Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 from my current system going in there and all of my current hard drives.

I use my pc for a lot of gaming, an awful lot of photo editing, lightroom/photoshop. Music recording (guitar) and just general pc usage like everyone does.

Don't get that god awful cpu. You would be far better with an i7 4790k.

Also the case is a massive chunk of the budget. I would suggest a cheaper case and maybe go for 16GB Ram as well.

If you only have a 7850 gpu then you don't need a 750w psu. A 550W would be sufficient for any single card setup.

Something like this would be better. The Phanteks Enthoo Pro is a lot of case for the money. It is out of stock atm, but it should be due back in stock shortly.

The 650W Superflower is plenty for your system if you are sticking with a single gpu.

Thank you for your reply - I've always stuck to AMD processors, in fact, I've NEVER built an intel system, ever! Is the amd fx-8 9590 that bad? I was going to upgrade the ram to 16gb eventually, but if i don't go for a £200 case i could easily afford more hardware.

I already noticed the superflower price from 650-750w was a fiver, i would have normally gone for the 650, but for a fiver there's no big deal.

Can i ask, what kind of system are you currently running?

Thank you for your help so far :)

If you want AMD look at the 83xx range, the 9xxx range is quite thirsty on power and the Intel 4690K which is only quad core and pulls a lot less power does beat it in a majority of benchmarks and others not far behind.

Thanks for the heads up RJC - I've been looking at the 4790K last night from what was advised on here, as well as looking at benchmarks. The 4790K's benchmark tests are actually considerably higher than the amd 9590. I think I will probably end up with the 4790k but trying to look at everything and juggle things around now :p

If you wanted to save money and go for an AMD cpu, then the fx8320 would be the better choice.

All the 8 core piledriver cpu's share the same architecture, so it is only the clock speeds that are different. The 9590 and 9370 are just overclocked versions of the 8320/50. Also the 9590 runs very hot and it consumes a lot more power than the Intel cpu.

The i7 4790k runs at 4GHz stock (4.4GHz boost), so even if you don't overclock you are getting a very fast cpu. The Intel cores are stronger than the Amd cores as well.

The spec I listed has a further £25 off when you use the Gigabyte cashback offer so it would be £715 or thereabout. There are quite a few cases that would be better value than the Phantom such as the Corsair 450D/540/760T/750D and Phanteks Luxe, as well as the Pro I specced.

My system is based around an Ivybridge i5 3570k cpu with 8GB Ram. I was previously an AMD cpu user having had the Athlon X2/X4 cpu's.

Thank you Lee, I actually wasn't aware that the 9590 was just an OC'd 8320/50, however I noticed that was the case after you had posted your previous reply and I started looking more into it. I noticed the £25 cashback link that you sent me, which is a welcome discount. I was looking at this, as it's pretty much the same stuff as you specced (same mobo and cpu, different ram and different psu) However the ram in this set does have the same timings as the beast ram, and is 2400MHz. What do you think? go for the modular psu and beast ram or just go for this entire set? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-008-GI&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=2858

I'd appreciate your input on the bundle.

I'm also going to have a little look at the cases you just mentioned.

Thank you again Lee.

The Phanteks case that lee32uk linked is amazing if you are just after a mid tower. If your not shy at spending an extra bit of money on the case and want something larger and closer size to the Phantom i would recommend the Corsair Graphite 760T. Its a really good looking case.

A few of the prices have changed on my initial spec as the weekly offers end each wed as far as i remember.

If you don't mind missing out on the free items (Mouse mat, ocuk mug and paste) then the parts below work out at the same price (If my maths is correct)

I doubt you would notice a difference in speed between the Hyper Beast and HyperX ram. If you prefer the HyperX ram then this kit is the same price.

A modular psu will make it easier to keep things tidy. I wouldn't go back to a non modular myself.

If you only plan on running a single graphics card then the 650W is plenty (The 750W Superflower is now back at £86.99). I would suggest the 850W Superflower anyway if you fancy running dual cards in the future.

I agree with a few points here.

the 820 case is over kill.

Save yourself £50 and go for the 810 switch. Great case and plenty of room.
Going the z97 would be better as you will have upgrade options available in future.
