Hi guys,

I've got the upgrade itch and I was thinking to pull the trigger on this build. I haven't built a fresh PC in a while and I'm upgrading from my current setup (shown in my Signature below).

My following basket consists of:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £714.97 (includes shipping: £0.00)

What do you guys think?

As I'll be coming from a previous AsRock motherboard, I'd like to stick with the brand because its been superb for the past 6 years and its overclocking capabilities are phenomenal. However, I've never seen any feedback regarding their RMA service, is anyone able to put input on them?

Also, with the new news about Intel CPUs going to be affected, I'm not sure if to wait for another gen of tech?

Hope you guys can answer my questions :D

thanks
stefan

I can't speak about Asrock RMA, but your previous experience with their board(s) kind of answers that question on whether or not to go with Asrock.

I wouldn't wait if I was in the market for new gen i7, there's nothing close to it. Even its successor is a good 6 or so months away. Go for it, I say. It's a solid combination.

Tbh with my current setup waiting 6 months or so wouldn't be a bad idea but having an upgrade itch sucks.

I was also thinking to get a new PSU as my current one is also 6 years old. Would you think my current one would be okay or would you have a new system with a new PSU?

As for RMA, I've heard so many bad things regarding Asus RMA service. Not many about Gigabyte but with Giga being based in the U.K. It would be a good choice as it's close to home.

If you're upgrading your system, then a new PSU is highly recommended. As the old PSU will be reaching closer to the end of its life. So for that reason, it's not ideal to have a new system with an old PSU.

Go with Gigabyte because they have a rep lurking in the forums helping out their customers with technical support and RMA etc.

:)

Gigabyte have a lot going for them with their UK RMA. Plus it saves you extra money (should you RMA) with mainland UK shipping instead of international tracked and insured shipping, which costs a fortune.

^^ above helps a lot.
Technically you always go through the reseller - in the case OCUK - gigabyte encourage this and can step in to help or if using a very bad reseller will allow you to deal with them directly. other vendors don't. again , if your using OCUK , should be fine as they are pretty good, but you'll have no input bar them.

if going asrock- taichi and 8 pack 3200 ram !
