Hey guys so I don't really know if this is the right place to post this but I was originally going for a laptop but caved and gone for a build. Can you please advice if this is a competent setup? If not any advice would be greatly appreciative.

Yeah pretty much, I wasnt quite sure how much more money it would cost to go above 1080p 60fps. An was hoping the blue prints I laid out would leave room for improvement should I need or want too.

Personally for PC and Xbox X gaming. Would get a 1440p screen since that now supports it with freesync.
Means you don't have to drop £800 on a GPU to play 4k gaming , nor play 30fps 4k on the Xbox . Believe 1440p should run 60fps with freesync :D

Worth a bit of though and research on xbxo variable sync and 1440p

What's the situation with Ryzen as opposed to Intel? I have a friend who keeps trying to shove it down my throat but comes up with no comparison of reputable information as to why Ryzen over Intel?

Ryzen 2nd gen helps close the gaps with gaming and programs that only use 1-2 threads due to how well XFR 2 handles the chip. Pretty much no need to overclock !

If your still faster pure gaming then Intel but Intel's budget B360 board and non K chips will come under heavy pressure when AMD released B450 budget boards that can OC and handle 3200hz at launch
 
AMD is planning on utilising the AM4 socket for a prolonged period of time, not sure what Intel's recent developments are but they seem to change socket often so if you would to upgrade your CPU you would need a new Motherboard as well.

You can probably save a bit on your cpu cooling choice, overclocking it would not yield as much performance as it could if you had a more powerful GPU.

As you mention you want a 4k monitor I would disregard the premium CPU you have chosen and opt for something cheaper, an AMD 1600 has almost if not identical performance to an 8700k when gaming at 4K - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally I would ditch the cpu and cooling (£350 together) and buy a Ryzen 2600 and put the rest into a GPU. My pick for that would be a GTX 1080 which you can find for £450-500.
