Greetings All,

So if you're in the market for a new PC, is there any concrete information to suggest ANY existing CPUs are safe? Has anyone seen a timeline for the nexr series and of course if it bug free. Been searching but not really been help;ed by what I have read.

Cheers

Seem AMD are good apart from a couple of versions of Linux kernels and then it's under pretty limited situations. I did read some versions of the A6 chips might have a vulnerability.

I would wait a while, wait to see what impact the intel updates have on performance,by this stage ryzen +will be right round the corner. Then you can purchase knowing you made the right choice.

I'm going to plump for a Ryzen 5 based rig for now as it seems like a safe bet until intel fix their issue at a hardware level (may take a while though).

I have everything minus a board, processor and RAM. The only thing that really bothers me at the moment are those insane DDR4 prices!

For me, I'm going to wait. AMD are on the right path, where as intel seem to be rushing to market to compete with AMD. I'll probably look at an 8 core coffee lake, or 12 core Ryzen.

TBH I think I'd hold out for the Ryzen refresh,Unless desperate/Need on now.

I have to admit, Intels CPU's don't quiet have the appeal now due to the known flaw! Always at the back of your mind as whether it will rear its head again for whatever reason.

I'd hold out if possible until ram prices become more reasonable.

Unfortunately that is an indeterminate amount of time, so if you need an upgrade now sooner, the Ryzen refresh is scheduled for April.

Good solid advice. Thank you. I have decided to simply wait. I would like to think that Intel have actually learned from this horrific episode in their history and will be more vigilant in the future.

AMD are supporting AM4 until 2020, so you can keep your motherboard and RAM and simply upgrade to Zen 2 and Zen 3 CPUs when they release.

There won't be an 8 core coffee. Perhaps when the Enthusiast socket come to coffee those will likely start at 10 by then, with 8 being mainstream in canon or ice lake.
