Hi everyone,

I have just built a new pc. Here are the components:
Coolermaster HAF 932
Titan Fenrir T
Intel i7 920, D0 SL
1GB XFX HD 4890
6GB (3x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R
1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Now, I have had no luck with this pc, first Windows 7 wouldnt install (would get stuck on windows is loading files during installation).
I then switched it to my old hard disk with vista on it, everything worked fine. Swaped it again for the new hard drive and would have the same problem (This is my second brand new 1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 that I have tried).
Last time i restarted my pc, no display would come on. I tried putting my old 8800gtx inside but still no luck.
I'm getting very frustrated here, and would like to know if anyone knew a decent repair shop in Nottingham?

Thank you very much

so the PC boots but its not stable enough to install windows...
hmm do you have another PC? if so download the diagnostic program from Samsung they should have one, burn it on a bootable CD (I did with my maxtor drives)

while your at it might as well get memtest :p just in case you start tweaking with memory

I really don't want to sound patronising but have you made sure everyting is pushed in correctly? if this is your first build (i dont know if it is but it could be) it is very easy to overlook something like that. again, sorry if it sounds patronising =]

I wouldn't go off to the repair shop just yet, im sure someone on here will have the answer for you.

Firstly check your recommended ram voltages, 1.65v I think it is.

Leave everything else on default.

What's your powersupply? You haven't listed it

Hi,

Don't loose faith! A repair shop will charge you and there is far more satisfaction when you fix something yourself.

First off:

Have you tried reseting the CMOS jumper?
Strip the machine down again, and run it with bare essentials in (MOBO, CPU, 1x stick of RAM, GFX Card

"Now, I have had no luck with this pc, first Windows 7 wouldnt install (would get stuck on windows is loading files during installation)."

When I installed W7 it did seem to take ages to do a few stages. I thought it had froze but I just left it and it was fine.

As some people have said, try booting up with just 1 stick of RAM. I had a computer that wouldn't deliver display to the monitor and it was down to a dead stick.

Clearing the CMOS is a good idea as well. It's a plastic jumper on your motherboard, refer to your manual for information on how to do it.

I'm not sure what PCI-E connectors a 4890 has but make sure you have the power cables connected to it. Also, does your PSU have enough power?

I'd stick with trying to fix it yourself for a bit, somebody should be able to sort it for you. You won't like computer repair shop prices :)

Good luck :)

configure your bios a bit, someone already mentioned ram voltages, manually set timings aswell. but first why not clear the cmos and load optimized defaults.

also check your sata connections are snugly in place.

As most have said check every connection first, it only takes one SATA cable to be hanging out slightly. :P (I've done it enough times).

After that my first port of call would be reset the CMOS and then set the ram voltages/frequencies.

I'd make sure everything is in right if its your first build like make sure the rams in the correct slots, etc (its stupid i know, but trust me it happens a lot). However you did mention about Windows 7 stalling? When i installed my copy it seemed to take forever and there were a few times i thought it had crashed and was nearly at the point of restarting it, but i just left it and it caught up ok so it might just be that? Like other people have said i don't want to sound patronising, but 90% of time its just something simple :)

yes, vista/win7 are slower at expanding the files from the cd, good point poster above, it seems like its froze but you have to wait ages.

I had this same issue as well, after searching google for a bit it turned out to be the floppy seek option being on in the bios with no floppy drive connected.

thank you soo much everyone for all your responses.
I'm not sure what happened with the display but it started working the next day when i switched the power on.
for the hard drive and installing windows 7, I followed your advices and reset the CMOS.
It worked fine afterwards, running very smoothly with no problems with any drivers.
The only thing I m not sure is my power supply, I have a Antec hw620. Is that enouth to power my rig with 4 HDDs?

Next step will be overclocking this little beast:)

Thanks again.
