Hi

I've been playing around with my i7 bundle (with rampage), all seems stable but under prime95 I was hitting 100c with the 1 fan so I added a 120mm fan on the back of the heatsink (push/pull) but still hitting 93c!, is this normal??.

Also checking the IOH and ICH temps in the bios left idle they are hitting 70c/60c, thinking about removing the heatsinks and using the MX-3 on them but they are already red hot to touch..

Am I worrying about nothing here or should I be looking to reduce temps?.

Yea that does sound too hot.

with an i7-930 @ 4ghz with a NH-D14 im sitting at low 70's iirc with prime 95

Your cooler is just as good and ok, your at a higher OC with 4.2g but 90+ does sound too high.

Check what vcore is set in the bios for interest and maybe check the cooler is seated correctly

Thanks.

I have 6 fans in the case 3 x 140mm that came with it and 3 x Sharkoon 120mm 1000rpm, the case is a Corsair 700d.

CPU voltage - 1.376v
CPU PLL - 1.812v
IOH v - 1.164v
ICH v - 1.111v

Don't really want to remove the heatsink(s) unless it will make a difference, do these seem reasonable voltages?.

All the voltages seem ok.

The CPU one is quite high, but I guess thats to be expected with the 4.2ghz OC - mine is at 1.325V @ 4.0ghz

Maybe give Overclockers a ring see what they say since it was a pre-done bundle

I re-applied MX-3 (was a bit heavy handed the first time I think) on the CPU and disabled HT and was getting 81c max so I reduced the CPU voltage to 1.35v and left on Prime95 overnight and it maxed at 79c so I think I'll leave it there, could try reducing the voltage a little more I suppose..

4.2 on air is a high clock.

Personally you might be better dropping down to 4Ghz and seeing if you can get the vcore under 1.3V.

When i had a decent I7 was able to get 4.2 at 1.28V.

Not being funny but I paid for a 4.2ghz clock so don't really want to reduce it!, I notice they now use the i7 950 in this bundle...

Even with the side of the case off I am hitting 90c max on prime95 after about 15 min run. It is stable and really I shouldn't worry I guess but a little disappointed that it runs so hot. I did reduce the voltage but got some cold boot issues and cant seem to reduce it beyond 1.365v.

I was thinking about maybe getting a Corsair H50 cooler instead of the Megahalems but not sure it would make much difference?.
