Hi I bought a new 7ft Olympic bar and a olympic EZ curl bar that turned up today. But they are rusty and scratched would you accept this and would this rust get any worse? I always get accused of being too fussy so thought I would get some other peoples opinions.

Is it rust or defects in the chrome ? Can't tell in pics.

It's Ok I found the hairline rust bit & I'd send them back as that can only get worse & it's not in a good place for access to sort it out.

The barbell (top photos) is scratched like the chrome has come of in areas, and then EZ bar (below pics) is rust that doesn't rub of with a cloth it's actually in the metal not just a residue.

My main question is will this get worse if I leave it? They will be getting used in a garage so possibly damp air, which im worried could make this rust a lot worse.

If kept indoors they wouldn't get worse but a damp garage will make it get loads worse, Chong warrior does have a point though, Who cares you're only going to be slinging them about anyway.

Yeah I know what you mean if it was something I bought for looks I would be looking to replace them straight away. But they are only going to get smashed around, just annoying if they get worse and need replacing in a few years. I have emailed the pics so will wait and see what they come up with.

I'd send it back...

However, if you care less, simply file off the rust and apply a tiny amount of grease t the area. As lol-tastic as it would be, that's not a good area to get rust. HOWEVER, any damage will take a while (5+ years at least for even cracking, let alone failure) to manifest,

Test me: I'm a materials scientist. I even have a PhD in materials science, too.

But I would personally send it back. If I had just shelled out to tool up, I'd want it perfect, too.

I'd take better, clearer, larger photos and send them to to place of purchase. I'd ask for either money off voucher, or 15% of the price you paid back in your account.

I'd then get some wire wool and cleaner and give them a good clean.

they fine. They arent mightily expensive ones Id guess (as I have sailimar by the looks of it). IIRC mine were like that...with a bit of storage rust when I got them...and I thought huh. But 4 years later...they still very good condition and I use them a lot. the more expensive ones you buy...the higher quality finish they will have. But if you store them in a damp place, thing like that will always rust a little. I keep mine in the garage which is very dry...and have never rusted at all since getting.

Heard from them this morning, they said they could arrange collection and swap them, or a £20 refund. In the end I bought a weight tree from them and got the £20 discount of them and asked for free delivery which they agreed. So I am happy with the out come. Customer service was good, got back to me straight away and were helpful.

Thanks for all the advice.
