New C2D Build with around £800 budget

Hi,

Looking for a new build, been looking for a while at something around:

C2D 6600
DS3-P
2Gig Corsair 6400 or similar
Antec 900
Mid-Range 500-600W PSU
Either 320MB or above 8000 GTS

Already have a Raptor 36gig HDD to use as bootdisk, however a nice storage drive would be useful also.

Looking to OC a little but nothing to extreme as this is an upgrade from a good 'ol AMD 1700+, 512mb ram, radeon 9700 pro etc ;)

Currently have one of the new Samsung 1440/900 monitors fyi.

Base unit & keyboard needed (have mx1000 mouse)

Also I have seen the new chipsets (P35) are these worth spending the extra money on for the 1333fsb & ddr3 i think aswell?

Some feedback would be appreciated as I am looking to order in the next couple of days, or as soon as I have a finalised spec :)

If you can wait until the Intel price drops (22 july iirc), then wait.

I agree with toosepin regarding getting the Corsair PSU, its an awesome bit of kit.
 
Is the Cellshock much better than the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit?

The PSU looks good for the money, so pretty sure that will be included.

Any other thoughts appreciated.

The Cellshock will overclock much better than the Giel, you could also look at the G. Skill HZ.

Ballistix PC5300 is another good overclocker and easily hits 1100MHz but has a slightly higher fail rate than the G. Skill/Cellshock ram.

Has DDR3 support for future proofing and overclocks like a monster.

Corsair PSU is good :)

The Antec 900 is a good cooling case but it is a little plasticy, if you don't mind that then go for it. A slightly quieter and better made PSU would be the Lian-Li PC7 however.

Keep the E6600 :) although as previously mentioned take a look at the Intel Price drops here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17729305

Edit: Oh and remember an aftermarket cooling for overclocking, take a look at the Noctua/Tuniq Tower/Thermalright Ultras.

Thanks for reply's, I was looking at the Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R board, what is the difference on the more expencive models, see 2 around £150 based on the P35 chipset.

Case wise I have a Thermaltake Tsunami atm, which i have been pleased with, will look into the Lan-Li.

Cellshock ram seems the favorate so far, as per the PSU.

Would it be worth getting one of the £50 or so C2D's for now then upgrading to a quad when the price cuts come in? Im sure even one of them will be better than my old 1700+ amd hehe. What sort of price are we expecting the quad's for in the UK?

With the GPU what would be reccomended for this, the 320 or the 640mb? 8800GTS as above will be running on a 1440/900 samsung.

You need to do some case modding to actually fit the GTS/GTX in.

The more expensive models have more SATA ports/features and perform slightly better however I don't think the increase in performance is worth a more expensive board.

I would jus wait another 4 weeks and buy the whole thing then.
