got my cambelt replaced on my clio (1999 1,.2l) at a garage on sat.
when i start it from cold after about 2mins i get a lack of power when i change from gears 2 to 3. i accelerate but it dont get anything for abour 4 seconds, then i can drive as normal.
after this the car runs fine and it doesnt happen again. what would be the problem here?
edit- also i have noticed the car is not as quick as it was before i had the new cambelt installed

How anyone can re-assemble a car with the timing out, let alone allow the customer to drive out the door in it, is quite frankly beyond me.

It takes 20 seconds to turn it over twice and check the marks still line up!

got to admit i wasnt best impressed but i should imagine it was a mistake. i dont know the ins and outs of changing a cambelt but yeah i would have expected them to get it right first time!

I don't think they can mend cam belt timing that quickly...?

Unless they just put some slack in and nudged it over a notch.

Is this a safe engine? If not they need shot.

thinking about it, not quite as much disassembly would be necessary to "correct" the timing.

strip down to access belt and tensioner.

remove tension from belt.

correct belt position.

reassemble

dont even need to do that, the ***** way:

top timing cover off

put a bolt between cambelt and cam pulley

turn the crank until the bolt it as the other side of the pulley

belt should be at correct position (depending on how many teeth out it was initially)

reassemble
