New camera advice needed

I currently have a canon ixus 95 pocket camera, which does the job fine for nights out etc.. But I am now looking for a larger camera with bigger zoom for taking on holidays etc.
I have never used DSLRs and I am not sure if I can be bothered too much about fiddling with settings etc. So can anyone recommend me a good digital camera with a larger optical zoom.
I am not looking to spend very much... £250 maximum but ideally less.

One of the Panasonic TZ series? long optical zooms, compact, great performance in good light.

Suffer in low light terribly though as do all compacts.

I am a bit wary of panasonic cameras... I have had 2 break on me.. one of mine and one of my ex GF..
