New camera advice

My uncle is after a decent camera and has a budget of around £200/250.

Are there any good bang for buck cameras around at the moment like last year models etc?

A bit more info might be useful here. Is he after a point and shoot or a bridge camera or a 2nd hand DSLR?
What kind of use will it be put to?
