Over the past few years I've been the main photographer at a number of weddings and events but mostly doing favours for friends and family. I've now taken the step to turn this into a business with working full time as a photographer as my end game.

I'm at the point where I need to invest in a better body as my 40D is showing it's limitations, especially in low light.

I'm looking at either the Canon 5D Mk3 or the 6D. I understand the main differences and I convince myself on a hourly basis to go for one, then the other. So I'm looking for advice from you guys.

I'll be mostly working with children, families and at weddings. I can afford the 5D Mk3 but I'm not sure I need it right now?

Advice would be great :)

I've had my 40D since 2009 so whatever I get next will be lasting me at least 3 years depending on how my business takes off. I have a number of lenses and access to most of the useful L glass available as I have a friend who went a bit mental purchasing glass.
